General Leo and Gestahl playable characters in Final Fantasy VI Advance?

By Spencer . November 27, 2006 . 5:40am

Kurt, one of our staff writers, found some possibly juicy details about Final Fantasy VI Advance. We say possibly because this information was discovered with the help of cheating devices. Apparently General Leo can be resurrected at the cost of the Phoenix magicite, once resurrected Leo can join your party. Back when Final Fantasy VI (aka Final Fantasy III in the USA) was released there was a false rumor about resurrecting Leo by finding an extra dragon in the dinosaur forest. After spending many hours slaying Tyrannosaurs Rexes the rumor was proven to be false. As a surprise, Emperor Gestahl’s ghost is a new playable character. To obtain him you need to track down the “master crown”. In battle Gestahl has a “summon” command as his ability, this command differes from using magicite since it is part of the four battle menu commands. Also we now know how Gilgamesh can be found in Final Fantasy VI Advance. First you have to buy the “excalipar” sword at the auction house then bet the blade at the coliseum. After a quick fight Gilgamesh will challenge you and if you win you earn the Gilgamesh magicite. Check beyond the break to see more pictures of Leo & Gesthal and a video of a FF6 party battling Gilgamesh.

My life is being turned upside down. Next you’ll tell me Aeris comes back.

  • Jiraiya

Awesome! Another reason for me to relieve my childhood by playing the 2D Final Fantasy games.

  • ragingdwarf

Nice. Now all they need to do is let you do a quest that puts Ultros in your party. Only instead of xp, he gets gil toward his ever-mounting debt. And he can’t die. Man, I can’t wait for this re-release. I have the SNES version that I play on occasion, but the fact that the battery could die and wipe my saves at any moment makes me happy to see this one come along. *glee*

The Leo and Gestahl rumors are supposedly fake as nobody has been able to duplicate it yet.

Yeah, those screenshots could easily be faked. I’ll wait awhile for confirmation on this before I crap my pants at the prospect of more playable characters in Final Fantasy VI.

  • damnunoobs

you dumbasses are noobs. you can’t get him w/o a cheat. yeah, lvl 99 at 7 hrs… plz…

  • CC

Hey genius they said in the article that they used a CHEATING DEVICE to find out he was ressurectable

tho its true that this is highly unlikely to be true atleast read the article first

  • RaleTheBlade

I used a GameShark cheat on FF7 that gave me 64000 experience points for each character in my party so level 99 in 7 hours isnt out of the ballpark, lol. And I always wanted to play as General Leo, he was tough as nails when he fought Kefka, Kefka couldnt even touch him till he pulled that Emperor Gestahl spoof.

ummm not to burst bubbles but this is fake note: “Apparently General Leo can be resurrected at the cost of the Phoenix magicite, once resurrected Leo can join your
party.” the first picture indicating Leo and Gesthal fighting in the world of balance none the less the island where Genral Leo is slain i remember that monster so far nothing odd correct “Phoenix magicite” you dont get this till the world of ruin your being had its fake once again the false rummors of genral leo arise trust me ive been through the rumors i tapped my eyes open for 4 days fighting in the forest waiting for the dragon to show up ive crashed into triangle island ive used the random cheat codes all the old ff3 version stuff none of it worked people are messing with you cause they know you’ll bend at the name Genral Leo yea i came here in hopes to until i found the flaw the phoenix magicite is in wor that pic is in wob a bad lie not very thought out at all but no one reads everything all they read it G.Leo reserected sorry to dissapoint you its fake

  • Seary

Do you think the thing about Gesthal may be true? If so YES! finally a full blown summoner char. If not ow well…

“ummm not to burst bubbles but this is fake note: “Apparently General Leo can be resurrected at the cost of the Phoenix magicite, once resurrected Leo can join your
party.” the first picture indicating Leo and Gesthal fighting in the world of balance ”

it doesn’t matter that they are fighting in the world of balance.

let’s assume (for arguments sake) that leo and ghestal are playable. And that they are unlocked in via the methods that the article says. The article states the the gs is used, so the reason why they are fighting in wob is because the gs was used to unlock them prematurely.

  • Twobit

^ that is not to say I think it’s real.

  • Raigan

well i can agree with that but the cheat would have to have been to get the phoenix magicite early ok exceptable. Wouldnt that mess the games story line up it seems to me you would glitch the game. In world of ruin you find Locke in the dungeon with the magicite its part of the story line wouldnt the cheat confuse the entire game and cause it to glitch up somehow?

  • Zyrius

no it wouldnt glitch the game i already done this once. It would say u got the phoenix magicite and just continue on, even if u already had it or not if u use the cheat to get the all the espers before the wor it doestn glitch the story line at all

  • MikeyMenice

The Leo thing I doubt but I did find a master crown what its uses r I do not know but I used a game shark to get kefka and it turned into emperor geshtals portrait and said ghost next to it as its class so its true but how do u get him and where is his ghost?

  • micheal hill

whats the cheat so i can test this theroy
