Tales of Symphonia OVA coming out this summer

By Spencer . February 1, 2007 . 2:55pm

Ufotable, the studio behind Sonic X, is releasing a four part OVA series of Tales of Symphonia starting on June 8th 2007. Each disc has 30 minutes of animated scenes of Lloyd and Colette’s adventure in Sylvarant. The character designer for the OVA is Akira Matsushima who worked as the character designer on the Rurouni Kenshin OVA “Reflection” and Rave Master. The second DVD is scheduled to come out on August 10th, the third is coming out in the fall and the final volume is set for a winter release. Since Tales of Symphonia made a big splash in the USA too there is a fair chance that an anime distributor can pick this up as a localization project. See the artwork from the OVA past the jump.

Yay, one of my all-time favorite games gets its own Anime. I’m excited and I’ll more than likely pick these up if they’re ever released stateside. In light of this news though, it’s a tad frustrating to think that we never got the Anime Cutscenes that seemed promised prior to ToS’s release. Oh well, this will be an excellent complement to an already excellent game.

  • Wow. If the quality is as lush and rich as the Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Eternia OVAs, then Tales of Symphonia OVA is something to look forward to watching.

Of course, I’d prefer a Tales of Rebirth OVA. I guess that’s because I consider Tales of Rebirth the best Tales in the series thus far.

Roli O, you saying that really makes me want Rebirth, it’s a shame they were never released stateside. That and Destiny 2. I really wish I could read Japanese.

  • Persmerga00,

GameFAQs has a complete translation of the game’s dialogue ;) Buy the game on Play-Asia and witness the best Tales ever!

  • Pesmerga00

Wow! Thanks, thats the first time I have seen a full translation on GameFAQs. I may do just that. Hey, I might even learn something in the process.

  • Pesmerga00

    Whoops.

If we’re lucky Geneon may end up being the ones localizing this for a Western audience. They were the ones who dubbed Disgaea and are currently releasing all the discs on DVD for us fans, only makes more sense to this for another game to anime transition.

In that same regard, I hope this turns out as faithful to its video game equivalent as Disgaea turned out. Judging from those animation stills, they certainly replicated the FMV cutscenes from TOS perfectly.

Cool! My brother thinks Tales of Symphonia is the best game on gamecube, so, I’m probably going to get this. And also I, myself, thinks this looks awsome! Where could I get it? Target?

I watched it, and it was good! exept, Raine’s name was wrong. Gienus kept calling her ne-san or something like that. I like seeing the exsphere in action the most! I wish I could see the whole thing in english! I ca’t wait to show my brother!

    >Raine’s name was wrong. Gienus kept calling her ne-san or something like that.

Actually, Refill is her real name. All of her official artwork (I have the artbook) lists her name as “Refill Sage”. So actually, Raine is the incorrect name and I hope the localization will run with her original and true name.

As for Nee-san, it’s a short, cutesy term for Onee-san, which is Japanese for Big Sister.
