Also this only happens 7 years after the first series, w/ the return of many familiar faces like Akane the scientist, so it's more like a direct continuation instead of a spinoff (same as Zeta Gundam being the straight successor of the org. Gundam compared to the other countless spinoffs). If you don't who Phoenix is from the previous games, the first chapter of him being a bum would not have any impact on you.
