Fatal Fury Special coming to Xbox Live Arcade soon?

There was some buzz about Fatal Fury Special coming to Xbox Live Arcade when SNK Playmore announced it at Tokyo Game Show 2006. After a brief appearance news about Fatal Fury Special faded away with a lingering 2007 release date. Earlier today Fatal Fury Special snagged an ESRB rating along with two other games Mutant Storm Empire and Tempest. Online play is the real reason to get Fatal Fury Special and if SNK prices it at 400 Microsoft Points ($5) it will be worth picking up. Mutant Storm Empire looks pretty neat too. It’s a shmup and you can see some game play footage of it past the break.

The sooner SNK releases Fatal Fury Special, the better. I’ve been eagerly anticipating this title’s arrival on XBLA, only to be awarded with deaf ears. That’s just like them to announce a game and then we never hear about it again until the day it’s released to the masses.

The 360 needs more online 2D fighters, and Fatal Fury Special would fill in that gap perfectly. Most of all, it’s the perfect compliment toward Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

I’m more of a KoF fan myself, but still…. POWER WAVE!

What I always found interesting is that Fatal Fury Special practically inspired SNK’s own King of Fighters franchise. Ryo Sakazaki, of Art of Fighting fame, was included as an additional hidden fighter, and proved to be hugely popular with fans. Naturally, as a result of his popularity, the KOF series was born, pitting SNK mainstays in various tournaments which can only be described as dream matches.
