Rumor Control: Front Mission 1st not entirely in English

By Spencer . May 28, 2007 . 9:46pm

Thanks for the tip IceAmp about Front Mission 1st being packaged with an English language option, but it is only partially true. Yeah, Front Mission 1st has English menus and status screens. However, the story is entirely in Japanese. (See the picture on the right?) I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, but I also wouldn’t want any of our readers to think that Front Mission 1st has a full English option like Phoenix Wright. Is it Front Mission 1st playable? Absolutely, if you don’t mind missing out on the story.

If you really want to get into Front Mission 1st it looks like there is a possible English release coming out. The Front Mission Project Blog, which is linked to the official Front Mission Online site claims Front Mission 1st is coming to North America under a truncated name, Front Mission. Square-Enix USA has not announced this yet, but considering the popularity of the Nintendo DS I don’t think this is too hard to believe. E3 is just around the corner so we should get official news relatively soon.

Front Mission Project Blog, which consists of employees who work and market Front Mission, have already confirmed the existence of a localization back in April. If you want to know more, they already posted the first North American version screenshot and dated several new changes for the North American version.

ie. commands are reworded

FIGHT becomes ATTACK
DODGE becomes AGILITY

If anyone doubts their validity, Front Mission Project Blog posted data on Front Mission 5: Scars of the War long before it was announced and presented at TGS 2005. This included data on new wanzers such as Luftrauber and how older wanzers were rendered, including Kyojun. Go to Google, use the built-in translator, and search the site yourselves. The information they posted is right on the ball and the North American localization isn’t a rumor, but a reality. One last piece of information is that FMPB stated to expect the game by fall 2007 or at least before 2007 ends.

LegaiaRules Says:

This is a link to the first North American screenshot and only the screenshot. This is much better than looking at the May or April postings on the Front Mission Project Blog site.

Note that the font difference with what is already in English in Front Mission 1st DS and I likely don’t have to say much more…
