Shining Force coming to the virtual console?

esrbsfscreen.jpgSega hasn’t officially announced it, but the ESRB has a rating up for Shining Force. Many years ago before strategy RPGs were a regular genre in North America, Sega released Shining Force on the Genesis. It’s a classic and well worth the 800 Wii Points a Sega Genesis title costs.

Also on the ESRB is a listing for “Dr. Mario Wii” from Nintendo. Don’t get too excited about the “Wii” text on the end. it’s probably going to be a virtual console release of one of the old Dr. Mario games.

thats a s.shot of shining force 2 btw

  • Oh Sega…when will you finally bring Shining Force back to its SRPG roots? While I enjoy the dungeon crawling PS2 games, I’d really like for Shining Force to come back to the SRPG way with Camelot helming its development.

That aside, about time. Now I can harass my sister into letting me download Shining Force on her Wii :o

If only Camelot didn’t get burned out by Sega during that whole Shining Force III affair where they left the Saturn to begin focusing their time and effort on the Dreamcast, essentially leaving them in the dark with the last scenario, which luckily they finished developing in record time and released on the Saturn before leaving to score a partnership with Nintendo as one of their second party developers.

Considering how close Sega and Nintendo has become over the years, which is evident when you think of games like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (now all we need is confirmation for Sonic in Brawl), there really needs to be a deal worked out to get Camelot under the helms of a proper Shining Force SRPG on the DS or Wii.
