Shiren for SNES is really sharp, and was much better than Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Note that "better" to a roguelike fan means harder, requires more strategy, actually means the player must think about the game, and that it can't be played on autopilot. All these things are severely devalued among current RPG players....

I haven't played the SNES one either, however it's lauded as the best console roguelike bar none. I read a good bit of the GameFAQs boards and there were some comments about the DS version being a bit easier/different than the SNES one.
I'm very excited! Hopefully the rumors are true!

I haven't played the DS one, but I remember it being rough on the Super Famicom with way too much dying. I think this column describes the gameplay really well: http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/07/play_journal_of_the_trip_to_ta.php#more

It's based on the Super Famicom version though and I'm not sure if Sega kept the same level of difficulty.

Is this going to be an actual roguelike, or more like a dumbed-down roguelike ala Pokemon Mystery Dungeon?
