Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1 alludes to number 2

If the volume one moniker in the title wasn’t suggestive enough, the backside of the manual certainly hints at a second Fatal Fury compilation…

In Japan Garou Densetsu: Battle Archives Vol 2 contained: Real Bout Fatal Fury, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special and Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers. Garou Mark of the Wolves didn't make the cut.

In the meantime there is Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1, which is pretty good. Yeah, it contains some older games in the series and it’s not going to change anyone’s mind about 2D fighting games. Then again it’s not out to. Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1 is a no frills compilation disc with four emulated Neo-Geo classics. No online play, no art galleries, just ROMs bundled on a disc with free play. The only “bonus” is a color editing mode where you can play stylist and change Terry’s outfit to pink and orange. Still it is worth the $15 if you’re an SNK fan and a great look back at the origins of the two plane fighting system. So many fighting games use that now even anime based ones like Bleach DS and Naruto. Dust off your arcade joystick and grab this.

Well my friend, Garou had already been released on PS2 as part of the NEO GEO Online collection. It would be redundent to put it again in one of the Garou D. Battle Archives!

However will that be the case with the US version? I don't know, but I find it strange that SNKP has chosen to release in the US the Art of Fighting, and now the older Fatal Fury games rather then some of thier other games (KOF XI, NGBC, Last Blade collection...)

By the way, what a cool picture on the booklet!

I believe NGBC and KOF XI will be released in the future.
  • @Carmen - very true about Mark of the Wolves. I wonder if SNK is going to release that in NA as a standalone. You know last week we reported that SNK is bringing KOF XI and NeoGeo Battle Collisseum to North America. So I guess there is hope for Mark of the Wolves on the PS2.
