I don't think he lost on purpose, I thought he said he was able to win during the test run and was embarassed not getting past that on stage. I knew he skipped the dream sequence due to time constraint, but he wanted to get past the boss if he could.

I wasn't making fun of him, just found it funny since it was a little awkward, that's supposed to be the grand daddy of FF.

It's interesting too Sensui was showing the Slam Dunk anime later w/ the 360 streaming, after seeing the Inoue designed chars in the game.

He purposely lost because time was running out! He even said he defeated the boss in a practice run...seriously!

I think Sakaguchi's still got it, I had a great time w/ Blue Dragon, got my BD system bundle. The gameplay was tight (if a little old school) and the cutscenes were mostly short clips. Thing is everything is in HD now and they take up room fast. HD DVD or Blu-ray would leave you more room to play w/. From the looks of it, Lost Odyssey would play like FF again, w/ the judgement ring-like thing from Shadow Heart.

Jeremy:

If people just wanted 4 discs of cutscenes from their games, they'd just watch a movie.

There's a balance between story and gameplay that needs to be had, and this announcement is further undeniable proof that Sakaguchi JUST DOESN'T GET IT. He keeps focusing exclusively on movies.

Read any of his interviews pre-Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within... the ones where he's constantly talking about how he's a filmmaker who makes video games and not a game designer, and you'll have a pretty good example of how un-interactive the game is.

I dunno, I think 50 sounds about right, I put over 50 hrs on Blue Dragon and still haven't finished all the sidequests (beating the dragons across the continent). I was wondering if it would span multiple discs since BD had 3, it's a bit of a hassle to swap discs in the middle of the game..

Great news that the Jpn version is including English audio as well, that way I can get the game first knowing that I won't miss out on one language. Usually I play the game in Jpn first, but if f the mouth movements are intended for English, I would choose the latter since lips not synching can be really distracting (ie FF X)

Even though the gameplay seems like the usual FF fare, I can't wait till Dec. (funny Sakaguchi got wiped out by the boss trying out the demo at the 360 briefing :)

If people just wanted "gameplay" from an RPG, they'd be playing a Rogue clone. The cutscenes and such help the immersion factor and draw you into the story, and are part of the 'reward' of the gameplay.

Still, I would take the official estimate with a grain of salt. They are almost always inflated by 50-100%. 25-30 hours is more likely, I'd guess.
