While the Xbox 360 is getting plenty of shmups take a look at what Eastasiasoft is going to release for the Playstation 3.
There’s Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer for you and the PC version is scheduled to ship out this winter. I wasn’t sure what to make of the project when I first heard about it, but the R-Type-ish shooter isn’t looking too bad. Nothing revolutionary, but it’s a smooth running, original shmup. You can’t really go wrong with that right? The embedded YouTube trailer may not do it justice though. If you want to see a higher resolution video clip head over to the main site.
Fantastic! That’s a pretty excellent looking SHOOTER (Don’t say shmup. “Shooter” was ours before the FPS-junkies tried to steal the term. Don’t give in. Also, “shmup” sounds dirty.) right there.
The only concerns I have after viewing the trailer are:
The trailer claimed to have “over” 12 stages of gameplay, but the site says “12 stages of gameplay”. The site says they don’t know which territories they’re releasing the game into for the PS3, and I don’t know whether it’s a PS3 Network game or a PS3 disc. (If it’s a disc, and it doesn’t get a US release, that’s fine, I’ll just import the Asian version since the PS3 has ACTUAL region-free capabilities.)
I gotta say I’m pretty stoked about this.
I like the german voices, not so much the american ones. Looks like a neat game.

Wow, that actually looks really cool (except for the voice overs, I could do without them)
