Listen to english voices in Japanese Lost Odyssey

By Spencer . December 7, 2007 . 1:08am

lolang.jpgImporters take note, the Japanese and Asian versions of Lost Odyssey have two language tracks: Japanese and English. It’s rare for a Japanese release to get this kind of treatment because companies know they can make some extra cash by selling international versions where the English voices are considered an extra. While English voice acting makes Lost Odyssey more import friendly, the text remains in Japanese. Since you have to navigate through menus and read passages about Kaim’s past importing Lost Odyssey still requires a fair degree of Japanese literacy and a Japanese/Asian Xbox 360. Unfortunately, Lost Odyssey is region locked. On the plus side the wait will not be much longer. Microsoft plans to release Lost Odyssey in less than two months, it arrives in stores on February 12, 2008.

Will the original Japanese voice track be included in the North American version of the game? I’m a big fan of Etsushi Toyokawa(the actor that voices main character) and this is one of the first things he’s worked on as just a voice actor, so I’m really hoping I get to hear it.

@Visionnerz - It should contain the Japanese language track. I asked Microsoft about this a while back and they told me like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey will have the original voices.

As much as the out of sync mouth movement bugs me, I think I would stick w/ the Jpn track since it’s jarring for me to listen to English and read Jpn at the same time. I suppose they’re spending the 2 months to translate the short novels? I hope the US version wouldn’t be region locked later.

I’m usually against using big name actors to voice games or anime since they’re not professional in that department, but Toyoetsu does have a very deep and cool voice very fitting for Kaim. Toyohara Kousuke is always good at comedy, he makes a hilarious Jansen too.

English is overrated.
