Watch – Using the Wii remote in Nodame Cantabile: Dream Orchestra

By Spencer . December 18, 2007 . 9:16pm

Nodame Cantabile on the Wii doesn’t share much in common with the Nintendo DS game and for good reason. Tapping to the rhythm doesn’t work without a touch screen to tap. Instead Namco Bandai went with the mimicry route for Nodame Cantabile: Dream Orchestra. It’s a logical choice for a conductor since the Wii remote looks like a baton. However, I never thought I would act out playing a cello or an oboe with it. The video explains how this and four other instruments work with over dramatized motions.

While I’m not sold on using the remote as a flute, I bet Nodame Cantabile: Dream Orchestra could be a good party game when you get four people in a room playing imaginary instruments. Including fifty songs and a handful of mini games doesn’t hurt either.

All this time I thought you could only be the conductor. Yeah, the flute is a little far-fetched, it’d be cool if the speaker could be used as a microphone like the DS, otherwise it’s just make pretend. The violin, cello, and timpani look like they could work well though. If the control is responsive, I’m definitely interested. The DS tapping was fun, but you have to admit the orchestrated music sounds weak on a handheld.

Now the agony I’m feeling since this game was announced, region-locked!
