Over a hundred Xbox Originals on Live by the end of 2008?

rah.jpgIs 2008 the year of the original Xbox? Surfer Girl claims over 100 Xbox titles will be sold as Xbox Originals next year. Rumor or not, it is feasible for Microsoft and other publishers to dust off their old games and digitally distribute them. However, there are only a handful of titles that are worthy of the 1200 Microsoft Point ($15) price tag. Plenty of the games on Surfer Girl’s proposed list can be obtained at a retail store at much lower price if you are willing to accept a used copy. There are a few hard to find games like Conker: Live & Reloaded and Panzer Dragoon Orta on the list though. The most interesting item on her list is Rent-A-Hero No.1 since it was only released in Japan regardless of a complete English translation. Now that’s something I’ll spend my money on to try out!

Rent a Hero was released here, wasn’t it? I remember a review in GMR.. or was it EGM?

Hmm..

Will Says:

it was EGM, and maybe one or two places if I remember correctly. They were given review copies, but that’s about.

I’m hoping Rent A Hero finally gets a US release, it would nice to understand some of the humor that I missed because I couldn’t read Japanese.

Does “Surfer Girl” have a good record of accuracy in regard to rumor reporting? This is the first I have heard of her blog. I’m excited about the possibility of a Rent a Hero English release, but I find it hard to believe that it’s really happening considering AIA that did the localization is completely out of the US game market now and I don’t believe the game was 100% QA tested before the plug was pulled. It seems like it would be easier to release games like Dinosaur Hunter or other first party Microsoft stuff that was ready to go or required little or no translation.

Atlus Shrugged Says:

How about a translated Front Mission: Scars of War?

I’ll fork over 1,200 MSPs for that.

No point to buying games that are available in the bargain bin.

Spencer Says:

@Bob - let’s put it this way she has at best insightful information and at worse fun stories to chat about. I’m quite excited about Rent A Hero myself, which is why I pointed it out. Speaking of Dinosaur Hunter… yeah why didn’t we get that. Some company was working on an English build… possibly budget publisher Metro3D if I recall correctly. I hope that trickles onto the Xbox Live Originals service too.

Visionnerz Says:

Rent A Hero.. seems too unlikely. But then again the game’s page on Xbox.com is still up. Man, it would be great if this finally is released over here.
