Watch – Houkago Shounen out of school on store shelves

By Spencer . January 31, 2008 . 7:44pm

In the post about The Genshiji DS, Jeremy reminded me about Hokuago Shounen (Afterschool Boy) and Konami just released it in Japan today (well… technically yesterday if you account for a time difference). The TV commercial shows a few mini games like menko, but it doesn’t show the flow of gameplay. The video below does. Players use the stylus to walk and tap fellow school students to talk with them. If you want play on a swing you tap it. While the movie doesn’t show any new mini-games it confirms Hokuago Shounen is extremely text heavy. Most of the clip is spent fast forwarding through dialogue.

I just noticed this thread about Afterschool Boy as well as Boku no Natsuyasumi at insert credit.

Both this game and My Summer Vacation are pretty Jpn-oriented alrdy (specifically the Showa times), so it would be harder to slap American names on the games just like Phoenix Wright did Gyakuten Saiban. I wonder if only grown-ups buy this game to relive their childhood memories.
