Watch – Combat in Soma Bringer

By Spencer . February 14, 2008 . 2:10pm

Soma Bringer is looking better and better. This three minute video gives an overview of the combat system, which allows players to assign techniques to the face buttons. Items can be quickly accessed too by pressing the L button to switch attacks into restorative potions. The result is relatively speedy combat and fluid wireless play shown in the clip.

Something else I wasn’t aware of is the wide selection of weapons characters can use. Obligatory cleaver-like swords are mixed with oversized spears, axes, magic wands and (normal sized) guns. Bows are another ranged weapon in Soma Bringer, but why use arrows when you can equip a bazooka? Ah, guns recoil and a character that uses a firearm flies back a few steps. Speaking of the characters, Welt (the male with red hair) looks like he has the same barber as Crono.

Wow, I can’t believe this is on the DS. The animation is so fluid! Do want!

Geez. How did this slip by my radar? Thanks for the heads up.

…And that thing at 0:43 really looks like the Dragon designs from Breath of Fire IV. Not really relevant, just popped in my noggin’.

Hey Spencer, is an English Soma Bringer happening? I can’t believe how fantastic this game looks, and I’m willing to bet it feels great too. If that’s how good online is, then I’m definitely getting the game once it’s released.

Just curious, but is there any relation to Soma Cruz of Castlevania fame?

SushiXex+alpha Says:

It will probably take eons to make it to the states.

Spencer Says:

@Mike - No English version of Soma Bringer has been announced yet, but considering how Nintendo of America localized Baten Kaitos Origins and all of Monolith Soft’s Gamecube games its more than likely.

Mike Says:

Well, that’s good to hear. I just hope the game makes it out of Japan before the next-generation of Nintendo handheld is introduced, hahaha.
