Watch out SingStar, the Xbox 360 has SuperStar

I mentioned Studio9 was working on an Xbox 360 karaoke game sometime last year. Now that the first Korean 360 exclusive is out in the home of bibimbap we have a much better look at Superstar. First impressions? It looks a lot like SingStar with K-Pop.

As seen in this trailer you pick a cartoon avatar, hop into a studio and sing along to “Listen” from Beyonce? Wait a second songs from the Dreamgirls soundtrack aren’t K-Pop! OK, so SuperStar isn’t entirely comprised of K-Pop, but there really are Korean songs in there like “Gloomy Sunday” from MC Sniper. While you’re focused on reading lyrics music videos play in the background. It also looks like there is some kind of support for the Xbox Vision Camera. Perhaps, it lets players sing on the screen like SingStar? Also in the shadow of SingStar, Studio9 will release sell new songs and videos over the Xbox Live Marketplace.

While there is zero chance of SuperStar getting localized some US or European publisher should work with Studio9 to make a Western equivalent. They put serious work into making an unknown competitor to a major franchise from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

I’d love to import this as well.

TacoBeaver Says:

well, cool… I need to wait for rock band wii to sing

Spencer Says:

@SAGExSDX / Andrew Yoon - Yeah, this does look neat, but no one has ran an experiment to see if it’s region locked or not. If someone is brave enough to do it I’ll be happy to publish the results! The other issue is if the songs are going to be region locked downloads. Even if they aren’t downloading them means acquiring Korean Xbox Live points… somehow.
