Will Bionic Commando hit the Virtual Console? Capcom says no.

bc1.jpg Over at IGN, there's an interesting interview with Capcom's Ben Judd on the upcoming PSN/XBLA remake of the original Bionic Commando, Bionic Commando Rearmed. Sure, this might not be too exciting for Wii owners, but there is a bit of interesting information about the possibility of the NES Bionic Commando hitting the Virtual Console. When asked about the possibility of Bionic Commando coming to the Virtual Console, Mr. Judd replied "That also couldn't happen".

Mr. Judd didn't give much insight on exactly why Bionic Commando on the VC "couldn't happen", but over at Capcom's official forums, Capcom's Christian Svensson shed a bit more light onto the situation, stating that it's not a Capcom issue, but a Nintendo issue. Apparently at some point, both Ben Judd and Christian Svensson tried to make Bionic Commando on the VC happen, but to no avail, it seems. Now this only leaves us to speculate as to why Nintendo apparently scrapped Capcom's plans to put Bionic Commando on the VC. Whatever the case, this is REALLY disappointing, as Bionic Commando for the NES is basically one of my favorite games of all time, right up there with Earthbound. Let's all just hope that whatever it is that's keeping Bionic Commando for the VC shelved gets resolved sometime soon!

As vendictive as Nintendo has proven to be in the past it wouldn’t surprise me that it was in retaliation to the new BC not being on the Wii.

If this is even *remotely* true I hope Nintendo fans stand up and exclaim how ridiculous such a thing is. We’ll find out more about this in the future, I’m sure, but hypothetically speaking… Nintendo is a major company, they’re in the lead this generation already and yet they wish to act like a spoiled brat if anyone gets things they don’t?

I find it hard to believe it’s really that simple of an issue, but if it’s anything like that I don’t even know how it could be defended. Rumors like this and the Goldeneye stuff make Nintendo seem petty and childish, never having the interests of gamers at heart in these decisions.

Beyond that, I hope the original NES version is included with Rearmed. It should be.

Crys Says:

That may be it, but also the ending of the game, which uses the word “damn” and animates a guy’s head exploding. I guarantee you, though, if the new Bionic Commando game turns out like Bomberman: Act Zero, you’ll see the original on the VC in a heartbeat, if only to parade around the fact that the NES had the superior version of the game.

Gerald Says:

Maybe they just aren’t too keen on releasing a game on the VC that features Hitler’s exploding head?

EvilAkito Says:

I doubt it has anything to do with the content of the game. I mean, it was included in Capcom Classics Mini Mix for GBA a couple years ago.

Not to sound paranoid, but I don’t always trust what the Capcom people say especially regards to games not getting published.

hasnt any1 realized that capcom began to have hatred for nintendo when the wii was released?
