Another Dreamcast revival? Cosmic Smash coming to consoles again?

By Spencer . May 1, 2008 . 12:07pm

I’m guessing most of the gaming public hasn’t heard of Cosmic Smash since it barely made a splash in Japan where it was released in arcades and later on the Dreamcast. Cosmic Smash is a futuristic tennis game where your opponent is a wall of blocks, not another player. You simply “smash” the ball back and forth until you break the blocks. This video will probably give a better description of the game so if you haven’t heard of it before take a look.

Surprisingly, Sega just trademarked Cosmic Smash in North America. The original game was released back in 2001. Why would Sega trademark Cosmic Smash? Could they be working a new Cosmic Smash game? Perhaps, for the Wii, which seems like the obvious home for such a title?

If this come to wiiware with good remote control it could be a big seller.

I’ve played the import of this numerous times, very fun game.

i like this game. it’s hard to justify the price tag though. i think it would work best as a downloadable on xbla, but it will probably go the same route as house of the dead and ghost squad and end up a 30 dollar wii title. i like the game, but 30 is too much to replace it with a waggle version. if it goes wiiware, which is a future option i always seem to forget about, then it’ll likely be worth it.

Hmm.. I think I’d rather see it appear on XBLA.

Wii seems like the perfect choice for it’s gameplay. not so sure about wiiware though; will they contemplate the service for that end?
