Suikoden joining the downloadable PlayStation Classics library?

By Spencer . May 8, 2008 . 8:28am

si.jpgKonami supported the PlaySation Store with downloadable versions of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in North America and Metal Gear Solid in Japan. In the future they might be releasing one of their rarer games, Suikoden, as a digital download in North America. The ESRB re-rated Suikoden as a PlayStation 3 / PSP title, which indicates the PsOne game is a candidate digital distribution. Second hand prices for Suikoden are sky high on eBay, maybe not as much as Suikoden II, but some time in the future gamers will get to search for the original 108 Stars of Destiny.

However the rating doesn’t indicate we’re going to see Suikoden anytime soon. Castlevania Chronicles was rated last year and it still hasn’t percolated as a digital download in any region.

I’ve never played any of the Suikoden games, so I’d love to see both 1 & 2 on the US PSN store. Konami USA needs to release MGS too!

jeffx Says:

This is ridiculous. Give us the 2-in-1 PSP port of Suiko 1 and 2.

F that PS3-to-PSP bull. Yeah, I’M COMPLAINING LOUDLY ON TEH INTARNETS.

jeffk Says:

I haven’t played them either, and it would be fantastic to see them on PSN - I really enjoyed playing Wild ARMs on my PSP. I’m one of those freaks who never owned an original PlayStation, and it kills me that I missed out on so many great games. The more PS1 RPGs we get, the better.

RayFoxSith Says:

Remakes, pls.

this is great news. i have always wanted to finish suikoden. i rented the first game way back when and played like mad, but i had to return it and i was broke. then, somehow, i never picked the game up and it has remained in my mind as one of those “must-finish” games. nice. i think i’ll celebrate the possibility of its release by buying r-types.

Chow Says:

I still wonder why Suikoden II was never re-printed. Suikoden & Suikoden III were both reprinted a long time ago (which is when I got those two games), so why not II?

jeffx Says:

Initial print was low and sales were abysmal, IIRC. As if they were testing the market, even though the first was a critical success. But Even if a repress was to come out today, all it would serve would be to lower ebay prices. True fans already have their copies, but it sucks for the rest. Even Japan had it rough with the SI+II PSP game barely moving 20K.

Mr. Mee Says:

Hey Spencer, was I the first one to point Suikoden out to you? If so then awesome cuz PSP Fan posted it as well based on your article. I influenced to site articles somehow if this is the case, if not then T_T

Spencer Says:

@Mr. Mee - Thanks for sending in the tip. :) I really appreciate it, but I already had this article written in the wee hours of the morning it just did go live until North America started waking up.

I can credit you for kindness, being a fellow Suikoden fan and an ESRB scout though!

funXgame.com - all about gaming and fun » Blog Archive » Rumortoid: Suikoden may get the PlayStation Classics PS1 treatment Says:

[…] Siliconera says that the PlayStation classic Suikoden may also see a re-release as a PlayStation Classic. The ESRB re-rated Suikoden as a PlayStation 3 / PSP title, which points to the possiblity of a new downloadable title. Of course, this could mean nothing at all, as there is no confirmation fo a release yet. But then I’d get to kick the ass of Siliconera’s Spencer for toying with my emotions. […]
