Tenchu 4 to be Wii exclusive?

tenchu1.jpg Well, this came out of left field. News from the latest issue of Famitsu seems to indicate that Tenchu 4 will be coming to Wii on October 23rd…and only to Wii. And, even more interesting (at least for longtime Tenchu fans) is the news that apparently From Software, the developer of the last few games in the series, will not be developing Tenchu 4. Instead, original developers Acquire will be taking over the series once again. Which would be great news for Tenchu fans, as From Software's entries in the series have been seen as fairly weak by many. Regardless, until we get solid confirmation, this should be considered a rumor for now. But, now that both Monster Hunter and Fatal Frame have jumped to the Wii, nothing would surprise me.

UPDATE: Scans from Famitsu now indicate that From Software is indeed involved in Tenchu 4. The scans clearly shows "FROM SOFTWARE X ACQUIRE", which is quite interesting. This could be something to keep an eye on, especially for Tenchu fans.

Hack ‘n Slash, right? Good, we need some more of those.

Also, everyone knowsn ninjas > pirates, so this title will kick ass.

Durffen Says:

@tealovertoma…

Not a Hack ‘n Slash. A Stealth game!

KGenjuro Says:

Fromsoftware was only the publisher of Tenchu 3, Fatal Shadows and Tenchu Z. The developer behind those titles was K-2. Capcom bought K-2 so Fromsoftware, who still owned the Tenchu rights, had to get a new developer and it seems like they took Acquire, the developer of the original Tenchu games, Shinobido and the superb Kamiwaza. Nice choice!

Really? Stealth? That’s interesting. I’ve never played a Tenchu - obviously - what are they like? You hide in the shadows, infiltrate houses and kill people in sneaky fashion? Is this the Splinter Cell of the ninja world?

jeffx Says:

A poor man’s Splinter Cell, but yeah, basically. The first one ruled, the rest were crap.

Pedro Silva Says:

hope they go all out on it.

Am I the only one that is getting tired of these constant turns to the Wii? I have yet to see many of them turn out to be much more than slightly prettier ps2 games.

Ninjeff Says:

@Daizyujin

Agreed! I’d much rather see games go on PS3 and 360, where they’ll look like _much_ prettier PS2 games.

Ninjeff Says:

Sorry to double post, but…

WTH?! I lost the tag at the end of my post that indicated my sarcasm. I’ll have to remember not to use faux HTML next time.

Great news. I´m glad that they chose the Wii for it (if confirmed) and I hope it´s better than the last one for 360 (which I haven´t played yet, but I heard it wasn´t good).

@Daizyujin

Why shouldn´t the Wii have some 3rd party exclusives from known franchises ? After all, it´s the market leader right now…it should have even more respect from them. And as for your graphics comment… it´s the developers fault when Wii´s capabilities are not used to the fullest (which is around 1.5 times more than GC). But besides that, graphics aren´t everything… better graphics don´t make a better game by themselves, and the Wii-mote´s possibilities have yet to be fully explored.

Daizyujin Says:

@seiya19

Market leader means people bought it. It doesn’t mean it is a quality system. Graphics may not be everything but they are not mutually exclusive from game play either. I can’t believe people have bought that argument from Nintendo. They could have made a system that had a new controller AND had power. They chose not to. Besides that is the least of the Wii’s problems. The system is full of shovelware, has a convoluted and unnecessary online set up and yes it is technically a 6th gen console. The new controller is also a mixed bag. It seems to range from games that work fine but would have worked just as well with a standard controller to absolute crap ports with forced waggle. I can think of maybe 4 games that actually would have not been possible with a traditional control method and most of those didn’t sell. I own all three consoles, and 90% of my games last gen were on Gamecube. I consider myself a Nintendo fan but they have dropped the ball. My comments stand. It is how I feel. Besides Super Mario Galaxy (a game I loved) is probably the perfect show of what the Wii is capable of at full power and it can’t hold a candle to much of anything on the other systems. Graphics may not be everything but they are a big part of it. Considering that the 360 is 5-10 times more powerful and costs a meager $30 more makes the Wii look like the overpriced last gen console it is. Only a person wearing rose colored glasses can’t see it.

OK so… according to MagicBox, not only will Tenchu 4 be exclusive to the Wii, but so will Tenchu 5 and 6!!!

Seems like someone has a LOT of confidence in this series revival…
