No Naruto RPG 2, but you get Naruto RPG 3 in French

narutop.jpgI just had a chance to communicate with Tomy about Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2 and I snuck in a question about Naruto RPG 2: Chidori vs. Rasengan. Laura Yoshioka, Director of Consumer Software Group at Tomy, explained there were no plans at this point to localize the second game in the Naruto RPG series. There aren't any plans to release a GBA to DS port of Naruto: Konoha Senki either. In case you weren’t aware, Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2 is a localized version of Naruto RPG 3: Reijuu vs Konoha Shoutai.

Naruto: Path of Ninja 2 is pretty much a straight localization of the Japanese game. There are some minor changes like an extra battle song and the surprising addition of a French text option. However, if you own the North American version you won’t be able to challenge anyone with Nintendo Wi-Fi who owns the Japanese equivalent. This might be for the better since the DS game in Japan has been out since 2006. I imagine there could be some pretty one sided fights if players had to face off against someone who owned the game for two years.

I really should have asked more questions about adding in French text. That’s a really unique option for a portable North American RPG!

Considering Nintendo has included French versions in some of their recent AAA titles (Galaxy and Hourglass come to mind) this isn’t all that surprising. Maybe they’re aiming for a big Quebec marketing push.

A sham I don’t speak a second language. I would be interested in script difference

Well it is strange to see such a huge localisation… like an RPG, done in French, thats irregular, especially just for French Canada. As for script differences my guess is the French version is just based off a translation of the English, so nothing special there.
