Xseed picks up Game Center CX and Populous DS

By Spencer . July 11, 2008 . 9:57am

gamecentercx.jpgLast weekend I talked with Xseed and was shocked when I found out they got the rights to Game Center CX. In the USA it will be called Retro Game Challenge to match the name of the upcoming series of DVDs when it arrives this winter. Populous DS was also a surprise since it’s an Electronic Arts franchise. I thought EA would eventually cave and localize it, but nope Xseed has been working on it and it’s scheduled to come out this fall.

A lot of people guessed Avalon Code and Rune Factory Frontier, which will be coming out in Q1 2009. I expected Xseed to work on both of these games since they partnered up with Marvelous, but it's nice to hear actual confirmation from the publisher.

Here is a list what Xseed has as E3 with tentative release windows.

Marvelous properties

Avalon Code (DS) – Q1 2009

Rune Factory Frontier (Wii) – Q1 2009

Little Kings Story (Wii) – Winter 2008

Valhalla Knights 2 (PSP) – Fall 2008

Internal Xseed projects

Populous (DS) – Fall 2008

KORG DS-10 (DS) – Fall 2008

Retro Game Challenge (DS) – Winter 2008

Woah, shocking stuff! I sort of wonder if maybe Namco will relent and let more 3rd parties pick up localizations now (they used to have firm policy against it iirc)… could we see Taiko DS and Tales of Hearts after all eventually?

I’m curious though… where’s Blue Dragon Plus? Maybe AQi made an outside agreement for it, like Away? Think THQ could be doing it (given their close publishing agreement with Microsoft and RARE)?

@jarrod – Blue Dragon Plus is coming, but as you can see Xseed isn’t publishing it. There’s an interesting story about this too and it’s not going to THQ. I don’t think I can reveal who has it, but if you think about who AQI is getting tight with I think you can figure it out.

  • jarrod

Hmmm… Nintendo? One of their teams made it after all…

  • R

With that hint, I’d wager a couple of Earth dollars on Majesco bringing Blue Dragon Plus stateside.

I’m at least glad to get confirmation for Avalon Code. Might even look into Populous DS — I read about the SNES port a looong time ago and thought it looked interesting, but when I found it in a bargain bin (also a looong time ago) I couldn’t make heads or tails of it sans instruction manual. Hah!

  • Hero of legend

Err, Majesco for Blue Dragon Plus?

  • Hero of legend

    BEATEN! XD

  • Hero of legend

    WAIT!!!

    It could be Ignition!

They’re bringing over Vampire Rain AS and That Mushroom game for the DS!

I hope it’s Majesco though, I like them more! :P

  • jarrod

I doubt Majesco, as they’ve already announced their E3 lineup. Ignition’s a good guess though…

    MY WALLET!! SHE HURTS.

Game Center CX? Thoroughly awesome announcement. Definitely an unexpected one, too. I love what I’ve played of it and its ridiculous sense of humor; it and King Story make me happy to continue supporting XSEED.

  • K

I am really happy at the support that Xseeds is giving the Wii and DS I hope they keep this up.

  • Daizyujin

Interesting. I have actually just been recently playing this. I am surprised at the amount of depth that some of the games have. On Rally King SP right now. I think so far Star Prince is my favorite.

  • Jay

@jarrod – Seriously, this is a surprise! I wonder what in the world they did to convince B-N…

  • C-Jo

No Flower, Sun, and Rain? :(

  • Jay

@C-Jo – Rising Star Games is releasing that in Europe so I’m sure someone picked it up for NA.

  • Cyber Fox

I can’t wait to play with the KACHO!

  • EvilAkito

Game Center CX is coming to the US! Please excuse me while I go shoot rainbows of happiness in every direction.

  • Pichi

Very surprised! Looking forward to AC and I might check into Game Center CX.
