Namco bundles Tales of Vesperia with a 10th Anniversary soundtrack

By Spencer . August 5, 2008 . 7:11pm

talesv.jpgWe’re getting a Special Edition of Tales of Vesperia in North America, but it isn’t chalk full of swag. The key bonus is a 25 track audio CD with 14 songs from Tales of Vesperia, two from Tales of Phantasia (side note: I’m guessing these won’t be the chip tunes from the Super Famicom / GBA game), two from Tales of Destiny, four from Tales of Symphonia, and three from Tales of the Abyss. The other difference is the game is packaged in a steelbook case with artwork from Kosuke Fujishima, the character designer of Tales of Vesperia and many other Tales games. I suppose this isn’t a bad deal for a Tales fan, but other publishers are giving soundtracks for free.

The Special Edition of Tales of Vesperia costs $69.99, $10 more than a plain game only copy.

So how much is this special edition? I don’t care much for soundtracks since they are usually just a couple of samples compared to the full OSTs. The metal case looks nice, but I find it hard to take out the game disk, such as the MGS4 special disc and Bande Dessinee 2, I always fear the plastic would separate from the metal. Even though I like this cover (same as the Jpn one), the US regular edition cover also looks good too. My wallet is going to bleed w/ this, Infinite Undiscovery & Last Remnant..

I hope this will be region free, unlike Eternal Sonata..

How about some dual language option Namco Bandai?????

Some of us wouldn’t mind the english language version.

Before anyone comes up with the bullshit that they can’t fit it on 1 disc, remember Eternal Sonata came with both english and japanese in ONE DISC!

So, PLEASE RELEASE THE GAME WITH DUAL LANGUAGE!

Spencer Says:

@Aoshi00 - Ah! I can’t believe I cut that out of the edit. It’s $69.99. While this may not be region free you can probably get the Asian version a month later since it should work with a Japanese Xbox 360.

Connor Says:

Meh. Not worth shilling another $10 for.

This game is going to be amazing, I’m just depressed about no PS3 release. ;(

I like more the regular US cover than this one (I haven´t seen the JP one yet), but both look great.

By the way, the excuse of not getting japanese voices because they don´t fit inside the disc is becoming obsolete to me. If they really cared, they could either release the game on a dual layer DVD (provided that the game is not already in one) or release two versions, one with japanese voices and other with english ones. Nowadays, they can even release the japanese voices as downloadable content.

I don´t think that either of those alternatives are too expensive to do, except for those cases were the japanese voices are too expensive for a niche game (which I don´t think it´s the case here, or in most cases).

And why does the game has to change the song intro to an english one, if it´s the same artist ? Is it because people in the west are somehow not able to hear music in japanese ? They should already know by now that a big part of the gamers that buy JRPGs are already familiar with anime and japanese music.

Aoshi00 Says:

@Spencer — I see, exra $10 is not too bad, but I could take or leave the soundtrack. Yeah, need to see if it’s region-free first, I’m not holding my breath if it’s from Namco Bandai.

@seiya19
Wait, is there a Jpn version to this theme song, the music video we heard from Bonnie Pink earlier was entirely in English. I would like to hear the Jpn ver too if there is one. For Tales of Symphonia, the Jpn ver has a totally different pop song for the intro (like Megamna X4 on the PSX). The Jpn cover is same as the special edition above, I also slightly prefer the regular US version cover, nice and clean, and very cool.

seiya19 Says:

@Aoshi00

Yes, Bonnie Pink is singing both versions of “Ring A Bell”, one in japanese and one in english.

I guess it´s still better than what they have made with other Tales before, which is using instrumental music instead of the original themes… Like you already mentioned, Symphonia had a J-Pop song for its intro in Japan (one for PS2 and a different one for GC), while we got an orchestra arrangement. Megaman X3 for PSX also had a theme song that was removed in the X Collection, and also X5 (don´t know about X7 or X8).

I´m guessing that the new Symphonia for Wii will probably get an instrumental theme as well…

For those who are interested, the names of the songs are in the Wikipedia articles of each game (at least some of them).

Don’t know if I want this over the regular. If the case is anything like the DMC4 one then it’s a pain to get the disc out. I would also probably just get the real OST anyway so the CD is pretty much pointless to me.
The only reason I might bite is to support the series in the U.S as much as possible. Wish they’d announced it sooner though.

Pesmerga00 Says:

I’m a huge Tales fan, and having recently bought a 360 this is a must for me. The metal cases are a pain to get the discs out, but I like the way they look. As for the soundtrack, I rarely use them. I would rather have an Artbook or something. I just hope they don’t pull the ” If you actually want the full game buy this DLC”.
