Okami, Odin Sphere, and Disgaea joining PS2 Greatest Hits?

disgh.jpgAfter so many reprints of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness I’m surprised it isn’t already Greatest Hits game.  In September it probably will be. Play-Asia has a product listing for Disgaea: Hour of Darkness as part of Sony’s wallet friendly Greatest Hits lineup. They even have some official looking box art to go with the rumor. If this is correct Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and Odin Sphere, two games published by Atlus, will drop down in price to $20. I haven’t seen new copies of Odin Sphere for awhile so this could be a good opportunity for people to give the gorgeous game a chance.

Play-Asia also lists Okami and Maximo vs. The Army of Zin as Greatest Hits games and both are scheduled to come out this month. I’m glad to see Okami get a third chance in the marketplace, but a $20 PlayStation 2 re-release could cannibalize sales of the Wii remake. And Capcom’s sales data shows it hasn’t been performing particularly well in the West either.

Update: It's official news from Atlus who confirmed Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and Odin Sphere as Greatest Hits game this September as mentioned here.

  • Will get Disgaea, more than likely. I'll need to decide whether I want the PS2 or DS version. Any suggestions?

Ninjeff, it seems the PSP port is the technical superior version, due to of what I have read faster loading times, and additional extras (Etna mode)..

I am unsure of which version to get between the PSP and DS one, but will wait and see how well the DS port will be..
  • I'm this is happening since I've played Disgaea 2 but I haven't been able to find the first one. I'm also buying Odin Sphere since they don't sell it here. Go play Asia.

Wonder if they'll do the same with Grim Grimoire. Play-Asia list it as out of stock :(
  • @Ninjeff - I only played like 15 minutes of the DS version so I can't vote for that in one or another, but I really liked the PSP version if you can choose that one. You get an extra story line with Etna and portability. The DS version has Etna mode and a few new characters that the PS2 one doesn't have, but the presentation isn't the same level.

I'd never thought I'd see the day when this would happen.

I sold my PS2 copy of Disgaea for $100 a few years ago because I knew the PSP version was coming out. While the PSP version is great, the new "Etna" voice actor isn't as good as the original one (though not bad). I might pick up the PS2 version just for that...
  • That must be the longest wait to get a "Greatest Hit" title ever.
