Insert Credit points out Climax cut the link and removed a wallpaper image from 2006 teasing about a remake of Landstalker. Climax hasn’t said anything about the PSP remake of Landstalker for years so it’s hardly surprising that it may have been quietly scrapped. At some time this was actually in development. Brandon has an interesting story where he spoke to Kan Naito, one of the original members on the Sega Genesis team and the Vice President of Climax Entertainment, about transitioning the Genesis’ isometric view to a full 3D world. In case you’re wondering what the 3D world may have looked like checkout this video from Tokyo Game Show. Landstalker still lives on as a Virtual Console game and spiritually in Steal Princess.

Why does that guy in the wallpaper look like a certain Nintendo sword-wielding Hero of Time?

Sad news the only game that gave Zelda series a challenge and it ended like this.

Yeah, seems to me a lot of the work that went into this likely ended up in Steal Princess. Maybe they could do a DS release though using the same engine?
