Could Captain Rainbow come to Europe?

Could Captain Rainbow come to Europe?Marco tells us (thanks!!) Nintendo: The Official Magazine published by Future Publishing in the UK appears to think so. Captain Rainbow is sitting on their release calendar with a “TBC” release date. However, I wouldn’t jump out of my seat yet since this could be a placeholder just like the “TBC” release date like Sky Crawlers and Soul Eater. Localizing Captain Rainbow looks like a difficult task since many of the characters are obscure in Japan and completely unknown in the West. If Nintendo chooses to pick up Captain Rainbow they might be better off switching characters like Mappo from Giftpia out with someone more internationally memorable like the dog from Duck Hunt. Another option for Nintendo is to only have Japanese characters that never appeared in Western releases and make jokes about why they never got localized. The latter idea probably wouldn’t sell as well though.

While we’re waiting for some kind of announcement lets look at more B-list Nintendo characters making cameos in Captain Rainbow. (Side note: Here's the first list.)

I remember personally when I used to read the official magazines, that the TBC is no indication of confirming the title, as most or many games never ever got released outside Japan…

But however Nintendo of Europe took chances with Tingle, so this might be something they might give a chance though…

@Mikael – Thanks for the info. I didn’t really think it was a confirmation either since Soul Eater had “TBC”. But you’re right Nintendo of Europe surprised everyone when they picked up Tingle and the USA didn’t. Europe got Doshin the Giant too and Wii Chess too so you never know!

The magazine aren’t very good for facts, I would get my hopes up, such a terrible magazine, they also gave a release month for Mother 3 in Europe at one point.

I hope they do take the chance. I’m in the US, but I would definitely import a copy of this game if it was in English. Of course I’d rather there were a US release, but if the chances for Europe are slim, the chances for this coming to the US are completely ludicrous. Of course Nintendo probably wouldn’t be happy that I’d have to mod a Wii to be able to play a European copy, but then they could just drop the silly DRM and resolve that problem just like that.
