Gust’s next alchemist is Atelier Annie

By Spencer . September 5, 2008 . 4:47pm

The long, long linage of Atelier games is continuing again on the DS with Atelier Annie: The Alchemist of Sera Island. It’s coming out in 2009 and it has an unannounced Wi-Fi connection feature.

Here’s a trailer that isn’t much on gameplay details, it’s a showcase of concept art. So far NIS America passed on Atelier Lise, but they still have a relationship with Gust and are the most likely company to publish Atelier Annie in the future.

    Looks good, although I prefer the art designs of other Gust games (from the little I´ve seen).

    I have yet to play a Gust game though… Ar Tonelico will probably be the 1st game that I´ll try from them, but I don´t know how different is that one to the Atelier series.

    The new fairy character is so adorable. Pepe seems to be his name. I miss the double jelly bag cap though.

    I hope someone cares to publish this or Atelier Lise outside of Japan (c’mon Rising Star games), as I’m curious how a traditional Atelier game plays.

    @seiya19
    Ar Tonelico isn’t too different from the three Atelier Iris games in terms of gameplay, artwork and humor, though it’s a tad more serious.

    I think Atelier Iris I is the best game to jump into Gust’s RPGs (be sure to watch Popo’s tutorials in Japanese), and their best release in the west so far

    @effeser

    I see… Well, I already tried the begining of Ar Tonelico (I should´ve said “play” before instead of “try”, it´s more accurate) and I like what I saw, but I still have other games to play before. I´ll see if I can try Atelier Iris: EM and then decide which one to play first. Thanks for the info/suggestion.

    And yes, I´ll definitely play any of them with japanese voices… As long as I have the option, I´ll use it (even if I have to see the FMVs in English, like in Ar Tonelico´s case…)

    @meikiyou: i don’t think it’s that they don’t like Nintendo, it’s just that Nintendo wasn’t as profitable as Sony before the DS. (I believe they only have published PS1 & PS2 games, and that Disgaea port for the PSP, prior to the DS, and they only have one PS3 game published). Now NIS is releasing/publishing a few DS games, so it isn’t impossible to hope that they will publish this in NA.
