Tales of Hearts costs as much as a console game

By Spencer . September 5, 2008 . 6:24am

toh The MSRP for Tales of Hearts in Japan is 6,650 yen or $62 American dollars. Each version costs around $62. Granted PlayStation 3 games can go for an upwards of 8,000 yen in Japan, but that doesn’t ameliorate the damage done to the wallet. Good thing prices for games in Japan often fluctuate from the MSRP even on the first day of sales. Amazon plans to sell Tales of Hearts Anime Movie Edition and Tales of Hearts CG Movie Edition for 5,370 yen ($50) when it comes out on December 11.

Namco Bandai has yet to confirm if the registered Tales of Hearts trademark will be used for a North American release.

another shot in the foot by Namco Bandai… they’re really trying hard to run the popularity of the franchise into the ground these days, aren’t they?

  • Damn Pedro, you’re everywhere. On GAF, on Siliconera, on the Capcom boards…

Good to run into a familiar face every once in a while!

  • I have to admit that despite the CG models looking awkward that they really don’t look all that bad. The ridiculousness of selling two different skus of the game, on the other hand, is something even I don’t understand; but if there’s a market for people who’d buy either a copy with anime cutscenes or CG cutscenes, then why not right?

I’m a bit inclined to purchase the CG version, only to see how good the rest of the CG cutscenes are. Is Team Destiny developing the game, or is it another team?

    @ Ishaan

On Capcom that’s me, but as for GAF… I don’t have a neogaf account :p or rather, I haven’t ever been approved, for three months or so, still waiting.

Likewise though, always good to see known people around :)

    @ Rolando

I believe it is a Team Destiny project, or at least quite a bit of the team is involved.

Regarding the CG version… I’m staying clear of it (unless there’s a US version and it’s CG), but I’m not worried how it looks actually… I could look better than the anime and I still would kinda repudiate it…

Knowing Namco I think this is a sort of a market study, and imagine “if” CG came on top or better than they expected… perhaps they would think that they could actually go with CG as the sole option for a future tales. (and they would, if they thought the public wanted, or that such implementation made it easier to sell in US)

I already wish they haven’t ever tried CG in that sense.

This said, I’m liking the look of the game itself, and if it came with CG to US or to a english speaking zone, I’d most likely pick it up, I miss Team Destiny after all (tried playing ToD2 but I can’t read it ^^’)
