How Hudson Hands Out Alien Crush Returns DLC For Free

Alien Crush Returns has downloadable content, but you don’t have to shell out any Wii Points to get new actions motions. When you start Alien Crush Returns the game asks if you would like to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi. If you choose “Yes” the game the game searches for active downloads. So far I received new actions that make the pinball explode at the cost of a life and a Paralyze Ball I haven’t been able to unlock. Hudson plans to release extra stages this too and it seems likely the new stages will be distributed through the same delivery method.

It’s unclear if the DLC is already built into the game and is being time released through downloadable keys or if Hudson is really sending new code. Either way this is a fantastic way to extend replay value. Other WiiWare developers should take note of this!

Well, does the DLC require additional memory blocks, à la FFCC?

I don’t have access to my Wii for the next three months. That game + Ultimate Shooting Collection really make me wish I brought it along.

@jeffx – I didn’t count the difference in the blocks, actually I was completely surprised to turn on Alien Crush Returns to find DLC. That’s a good idea to note down the number of blocks and check in the future.
