Yakuza 3 Extended With Eight Weeks Of Extras

By Spencer . February 20, 2009 . 3:10pm

y3b Ryu ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3) isn’t kicking in Japanese PS3s yet. Still a week to go before it comes out and Sega is already teasing the future.

After the game launches Sega will support it with twenty nine downloadable items spread out over a period of eight weeks. Some of these will be special missions, others item packs. Even if they were just 29 alternate suits for Kazuma Kiryu I wouldn’t have the heart to complain since all of this DLC is free. You don’t even have to go to the PlayStation Store to download the content. Yakuza 3 will automatically update your game if you’re connected to the Internet, presumably like a regular patch, each time new items are released. Pretty neat way (and forceful way) to give out bonuses.

nooooooooo why do they make this game soooooo good… and no english plans

It’s great the game would automatically be updated w/ new DLCs, I don’t check the PSN store very often and might miss some of them, like the Naruto Storm ones that come up every once in a while.

I always thought if Shenmue 3 were made today it would look and play similarly to Yakuza.

Great minds think alike Aoshi, that is exactly what I was thinking about when I saw the game. Man I wish Shenmue 3 would materialize.

I know.. it’s a pity all Shenmue fans are just left hanging. Considering the popularity of the Yakuza series, Shenmue 3 should do well sharing the same gangster elements and a myriad of mini-games, or people think Ryo’s not badass enough.. we can only hope. Now I’m on my way of finishing Yakuza 2 getting rdy for Yakuza 3, coming stateside or not.

I wonder how these patches work when you play this game with a non-Japanese PSN account logged in.

    • Aoshi00

I think the game would update itself even if you’re playing w/ a non-Jpn PSN acct. I use my main US acct to play all the games, I have the Jpn ver. of Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, & Valkyrie Chronicles, and they all d/l the major update the first time you put in the discs.

It would depend if the update is mandatory. If it is then it would be in the form of a software version update like you said. That would download automatically. If the updates were totally optional, then you would probably have to sign into a Japanese account to download it from the PSN store.

It is basically a question of if they treat it like “downloadable content” or a “software update.”

I just tried the demo, the men in black were pretty hard, couldn’t beat them till I adjusted to easy… There’s so much to do in the game, Kiryuu sings enka in karaoke, so funny yet cool. The hostesses look a little creepy since they look so real.

I couldn’t remember how to play, so the fact that I couldn’t pay attention to the tutorial on the fly didn’t help. …though I do remember kicking ass when I did play the games before.

Why no Shenmue 3? If Sega would just polish the graphics a bit, maybe by licensing the Unreal 3 engine, they could do the whole thing as one game… Anyone up for Shenmue Saga? I think the reason Shenmue 2 didn’t sell on Xbox was that most Xbox users never played Shenmue 1. This would give them the chance to enjoy the whole storyline. Plus, with 70 million invested in the development already, it’s really a waste of resources not to do this.

    What do you all think?
