Gust Learns About The Third Dimension

By Spencer . March 17, 2009 . 2:52am

image More about Atelier Rorona came out of this week’s issue of Famitsu. The biggest surprise being Atelier Rorona has 3D graphics. Gust, the developers of titles like Atelier Iris and Ar Tonelico, stuck with sprites and talking heads for facial expressions throughout the PS2′s lifecycle. Atelier Rorona retains static character portraits, but has 3D models.

Can’t really get a good feel for them from the scan so we’ll have to wait for clearer pictures. Gust should be sending those out soon since Atelier Rorona is scheduled to come out in Japan on June 25. We’ll start bothering NIS America to see if Atelier Rorona is on their plate for this year.

PS2 cool good… game week very,

    • Mazen

Am trying to decode this I think he says the PS2 one was “cool good” not just good, and it took him a week to beat it or it took him a very game week to beat it,
so that was his comment on the PS3 version..

  • Mazen

Cell shading! Wow! now am little interested in this.

I might miss the 2D sprites (i loved that they still used them at the time) but as long as the portraits are still 2D I won’t mind really.

I’d day one this if I wasn’t so worried that NISA would somehow fuck it up like they’ve been doing.

    • Volcynika

Don’t worry, since it’s on the PS3, they can at least patch it! (hopefully)

      :p

I want to see this game in action, hope we get a trailer soon. (Yeah no JP release for 3 months-ish, but still!

I figured they’d either go cel-shaded 3D or super high-res 2D; so I’m not surprised or disappointed. Although the June release is surprising (despite this being their usual schedule) because I would have anticipated extra development time using the PS3 and what I would assume is a new game engine and assets. Then again, they’ve been done with console games for a while. We’re just slow at getting them in the US, I suppose =)
