Gust Can Do 3D, Atelier Rorona Looks Gorgeous

Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland is Gust’s first PlayStation 3 game and their first 3D game. For a freshman effort Atelier Rorona is impressive. Atelier Rorona looks just as good any other cel-shaded RPG out today, if not better. In typical Gust style event expressions are shown with up close character portraits. Larger and more detailed portraits, but still static portraits. It would be nice to see Gust take a stab at that for their next game.

Aside from the huge presentation change (visuals plus full voice acting) Atelier Rorona has a twist on the typical RPG plot. The Kingdom of Arland isn’t in peril. The world isn’t ending and you aren’t the only savior. Atelier Rorona is supposed to be a more relaxing RPG where players can spend time hunting for synthesis items. Depending on the actions you take you will get one of the game’s multiple endings when you beat it.

Currently, Atelier Rorona is only slated for release in Japan on June 25, but this should see an overseas release one way or another. Probably, with NIS America as the publisher.

Rororina Fryxell is a carefree girl who dreams of owning a cake shop.

Cuderia von Feuerbach is Rorona’s impatient childhood friend.

Lionela Heinze is a traveling puppet master.

Astrid Zxes is Roronoa’s teacher and caretaker after her parents became ill.

The graphic is very nice. I hope they bundle in an artbook with the game

    Must.. have.. to play…

Oh, and indeed, I’d love a Bonus Artbook to this!

= Testing to see if Netvibes/No Script double commented me =

Yep, it did.. ah well..might as well add to it.

I’ve been quite hooked on the PSP Mana Khemia, which makes me wish I hadn’t missed out on other Atelier games. If this comes out on the PS3, I’ll be sure to nab it. Love the soft cell-shaded look to it.

I love it. :3 2D would of been nice, but this new art direction I can live with. GUST did a good job with it.

Also it seems (Neogaf thread) the character designer is Kishida Mel.

I dunno if it’s a new artist for the series, but I do like the character designs in this game.

    Well done Gust. Well done.

  • Mazen

Am surprised really, I think Gust have finally expanded and gathered enough money to make a good looking 3d engine hopefully NIS next.

    It really looks beautiful.

  • EvilAkito

Very cute looking game. I too am impressed at what Gust is capable of when it comes to 3D.

  • Kaoro

I would have NEVER expected a Gust PS3 game to look this good. I was expecting Disgaea 3 quality. Way to go Gust.

That said, it’s no Eternal Sonata. Very impressed though.

  • Vrakanox

Looks great, I would get it if I had a PS3. Or perhaps it’s time I finally picked up one.

  • Mad Mix

So, do you think that this game will appear in USA?? Like others gust games

  • Pesmerga00

This looks good, I really love cel-shaded graphics. Wish it were on the 360 though. Don’t have a PS3 :(

I hope this is a sign of things to come. Ar Tonelico 3 looking like this would be amazing.

Nippon Ichi take note. This is how Disgaea 3 should have looked.
