I have RF 2 for the DS, and RFF for the Wii. I actually found RF2 a bit intimidating and found RFF offered a gentler introduction to the system.

Holding the Z button can help align you while farming, since it seems to 'snap' you to 1 of 4 cardinal directions.

Love the game, but like the author, I can only play it on weekends, or risk missed sleep!! :)

I loved the first DS Rune Factory. Played the f*@% out of it. Just the first year though, but I got the best weapons. Rosette is my fav. Shes a bit boring, but I dunno, she was my fav.
RF2, the voices destroyed the game for me, I got maybe…2 months in? and stopped playing.
I have Frontier, I just haven't had time to play it. Still going at other games.

Argh! I must muster the moola to get this (the drawback to living in a foreign country with a hometown Wii)! I've been a fan of the Harvest since back in the N64 days and I did enjoy the DS version quite a bit. I'm not a big fan of Melody, but I tend to gravitate towards her, for the namesake and all.

Sad to hear the 3d equivalent just isn't as pretty as its 2d art.. same thing happened to Suikoden III when it came out in 3d. 2d was gorgeous as it was and the jump just didn't look as polished when compared to other 3d RPGs.

Here's hoping to improved cute monsters and farm friends when the next installment comes out!

Frontier is probably my favorite game in the HM/RF series (yeah, I know RF is now its own separate series). I found getting started to be pretty easy; everything seemed to be well paced and very manageable. The only exception being the runey system. It is great once you get a system working and you have multiple areas in prosperity, but the process of getting there is a bit time consuming.

You should go back to the original Rune Factory once you're done with this one if you have a DS. It has plenty of merits as well, and the portability is great.

I find this game is incredibly addicting as well, it has the “just one more day” pull, and I'm almost at summer now. Had to take a bit of a break due to work, but still, it's my first foray into the series, and I'm really enjoying myself.

And yes, farming is a pain in the ass at the start!
