asb D3 Publisher is handling the Astro Boy video game based on the upcoming CG movie from Imagi Studios. High Voltage Software, best known now for The Conduit, is developing Astro Boy for the PS2, PSP, and Wii. Art Co. is making the DS version. Astro Boy: The Video Game won’t be coming to the PS3 or Xbox 360.

The game will be in stores this October, around the same time as the film. However, no screenshots of Astro Boy firing his butt machine guns or using his rocket boosters in “flight combat levels” have been released. The two player co-op mode in the console games is also mysterious. If player one picks Astro Boy who will player two be? Uran?

This will have to, almost automatically, be better than the PS2 game from a few years ago. (And there’s exactly the opposite chance that the DS game will be better than the GBA one.)

Art Co. has some ex-UGA staff btw. In fact, they’ve worked with Sega/UGA and Q? Entertainment on few projects before (SC5 GBA, E3/E4, Gunpey DS/R).

  • Hmm. Wonder if this is one of their two big E3 Wii games. No wait, they said both those were exclusive to Wii.

Wow, High Voltage is really going places. I’m really happy for them. It’s great seeing hard work rewarded with cool projects.

On a related note, it’s going to be interesting to see how this game does in Japan.
