Kamen Rider DS Game Unmasked In North America?

By Spencer . June 16, 2009 . 6:50am

image Huh. We just might see a Kamen Rider game in North America. No, not the decade in the making clash of Kamen Riders coming to the PlayStation 2. This Kamen Rider game is for the Nintendo DS.

Gamefly has a listing for Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight, which is mostly likely based on the Saturday morning kid’s show of the same name. According to the retail listing D3 Publisher is handling the title. There weren’t any Kamen Rider games at their E3 booth, but a representative from D3 told me they have more titles to announce while I was checking out Astro Boy: The Video Game.

Update: Looks like there is a Wii version too.

For a second I confused this with Kikaida.

It should remind you of Kikaida since both were made by Shotaro Ishinomori. Bless his sole, his creations have been bastardized without prejudice since his death. It truly is sad. Just like Charles Schultz. The Kamen Rider shows of today bare almost no resemblance to the shows he made when he was alive. Hell Kikaida is closer to the original Kamen Rider than almost any of the heisei series.

interesting. That is a shame though. I am not too familiar with the series but I do notice that most stuff like this or movies produced post-heisei is aesthetically weak and not produced as well.

It is one of those things where it went from being a toy line with a tv show to being a 22 minute tv commercial. The original shows would have one or two riders. That was usually it. Sometimes they would have an alternate form, but hell Ryuki had 15 different riders with some having multiple forms. It just got out of hand.

The shows by themselves are actually decent, but putting the KR name on it is akin to doing a swap of Mario into a game designed for Sonic by Sonic Team and then calling it a full fledged entry in the Mario series. The differences are so obvious that it is insulting.

    Hmmm… DS Nintendo??

    • daizyujin

Yeah, would be nice if it was on Wii at least. Lets hope for a 3D action game, although I am not getting my hopes up.

Now Kamen Rider Scissors might actually stand a chance against another rider.

Well, it can’t be worse than the game based on Dragon Knight’s Japanese counterpart “Kamen Rider Ryuki.” That was one of the worst fighters on the PSX.

Still, I can just see this being a card based rpg of some sort.

Damn you Toei/Bandai, why the hell do you have to put an f’in card game in even the most beloved of franchises?
