Summon Night X: Tears Crown Has A Sprite Vs. Polygon Showdown

By Spencer . July 7, 2009 . 4:28pm

imageSummon Night X: Tears Crown went from obscurity to in your face with dozens and dozens of screenshots.

Similar to Sands of Destruction the battle system in Think & Feel’s Summon Night game uses both screens. Nothing says ultimate attack like Royal Rendezvous or Ether Dance, right?

All of the party members and most of the enemies are sprites, except this 3D dragon. I’m sure Summon Night X isn’t the first RPG with sprites entangled in battle with a 3D model. I just can’t think of any other game with this unusual setup.

Wow!! it sure looks really like.... Kimi no Yuusha!!

The only game I can think of at the moment is Blood of Bahamut for 3D vs sprite game.

Really like the look of the characters, hope this makes it over.
  • Oh yeah! That makes sense since Think & Feel is developing that too!
  • Hero of Legend
I thought Flight-Plan was behind this?
  • It's Think & Feel. They say it on their website too.

ugh, still waiting for a holistic Summon Night action RPG

Hanjuku Hero vs 3D for PS2 was, as the title indicates, specifically about the struggles of the 2D Hanjuku Prince and his armies against 3D invaders. I think this general plot was carried over at least partially into the fourth PS2 game and the DS one that we almost got.

Before that, most really large enemies in Xenogears were 3D. Certainly all Gear-type enemies were.

Though it's a PS3 game, Cross Edge has Sprite VS 3D. Even stranger, sometimes half of the monsters on screen are sprites and some are 3D. It really throws you off.
  • Ah! I can't believe I forgot about this! I was playing Cross Edge too...

I hope the game is a bit lengthier and tougher than Twin Age was. TA was a fun game but, meh.

This game looks pretty cool. Any chance of it in english? Probably bad, judging on how Namco handles the 2d Tales of games...on DS...?

    Breath of Fire IV :-)
