When Tekken Meets Tapout…

By Spencer . July 23, 2009 . 11:00am

At a Comic-Con press conference Namco Bandai announced a partnership with Tapout. Tapout stars won’t be wrestling with Jin, but you can dress Tekken 6 characters in Tapout clothes, which will also be sold as real world items. Finally, you can equip bears with Tapout t-shirts.

Namco Bandai hopes that Tapout items will broaden the game’s appeal since mixed martial arts is on the rise in North America. Here’s a look at the gear. Good? Bad? Indifferent?

I am going with “bad” here. Who really wants liscensed T-shirts in a fighting game? Is there even any indication that the two demographics overlap? I play fighting games with 5 of my other friends, one of them watches professional wrestling, the rest of us have no interest in any professional fighting.

Tekken 6 is a game where the promotional trailer features a robot girl punting her own head at a bear. It has nothing at all to do with MMA.

Sounds very lame to me. I WILL NOT buy. Anyone buying this crap is probably a little kid who stole mom and dads debit card.

Wow. I hate that company. This is probably one of the stupidest promotions I’ve seen. Yeah I can’t wait to stick endorsed T-shirts on my virtual Asian Bruce Lee Brooo!

Sounds good to me! I love Tekken and I love Tapout so perfect! My favorite is Bryan Fury So Be IT!

Namco-Bandai has developed a disturbing trend in regard to adding unnecessary content to games that were just fine to begin with… Star wars in Soulcalibur 4 and now this? Not saying it’s bad, but it doesn’t add much to the game for people like me who have been playing the series for over a decade now…
