Sengoku Basara Sticks To Wii

By Ishaan . August 11, 2009 . 11:50pm In an effort to strengthen relationships with Nintendo, Capcom is releasing a popular series on the Wii, reports Nikkei. As such, the next Sengoku Basara sequel will be gracing the Wii sometime next year.

Keep in mind the Nikkei report doesn’t say “Sengoku Basara 3” anywhere in the post, but that’s probably what is being referred to.

While it isn’t very popular in the west, Sengoku Basara is an absolute sensation in Japan, and is especially popular with women as we learnt a few months ago.

Interestingly, the report also mentions that Capcom and Nintendo will be cooperating in order to promote sales of Monster Hunter Tri outside of Japan. However, I wouldn’t take that to necessarily mean that Sengoku Basara will be getting localized as well, since, thematically, it’s a lot more Japan-centric than Monster Hunter in general.

And so, the confusion for Japanese developers continues! Do they develop primarily for the machine with Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest and Sengoku Basara or do they focus on the one with Final Fantasy XIII, Street Fighter IV and Metal Gear Solid?

Seems the confusion spreads from devs to PR guys: :

About certain report on August 12, 2009

Today, there was a certain report about Capcom in certain media.
We will make a necessary public announcement about product information when deemed appropriate.

    • Haha, that’s hilarious!

Not too surprising honestly, at least that it didn’t go to PS3/360. The bigger surprise imo is no PS2/PSP version.

Makes sense they’d want to follow MH3 up with something big though. I wonder what else Capcom has planned for Wii down the line?

    • lostinblue

How about a proper Resident Evil? they have been stalling since launch.

Me? I’d like Okami 2 or a new Breath of Fire, or perhaps a new RPG IP? (yeah, RPG-tard here)

I’d also like a God Hand sequel, but meh. Madworld is the closest I’ll get this gen.

I’d like to see BOF, but that series seems pretty well put to rest after Dragon Quarter. Ditto for anything from Clover’s vaults (VJ3, Okami 2, GH2).

I agree a “full blown” RE is probably overdue now. I think we’ll get one though, even if it’s from cavia or Nex or someone else outsourced. DarkSide Chronicles really probably should’ve just been an RE4/5 styled RE2 remake though.

Actually, one Capcom sequel I’d really love to see on Wii is Gotcha Force 2. The original was pretty popular even being on GameCube, and the budget rerelease even charted in mid 2007 thanks to Wii’s early success iirc.

Well, I’d put the Zack & Wiki team on Breath of Fire, they have the engine already and the creator’s curriculum was basically Breath of Fire, so…

I also agree Capcom dropped the ball when they made Darkside Chronicles yet another outsourced on-rails game; if they’re gonna throw a effort, like Cavia actually did, they might as well make it a proper Resident Evil; like this it’s like it’s a half extra mile, in a genre nobody wants by comparison with proper RE4 mechanic.

Gotcha Force… Not bad; throwing names around… I’d still like to see Dead Phoenix being ressurected, Power Stone, Clock Tower, Strider, Dino Crisis wouldn’t be half bad either… and this will sound weird, but even Auto Modelista wouldn’t be a bad idea; the first one didn’t get it right, sure, but there was space for improvement just the same.

Viewtiful Joe 3 would be SWEEEET.

          • jarrodand

I think auto modellista would work really well honestly, even if just a retuned/expanded/improved version of the original. I’d LOVE to see Dino Crisis 4 on Wii, using the RE4 engine.

I don’t want the Z&W team on BOF6, I want them on Mega Man Legends 3!

So I read on another blog about this and they called it ‘Devil Kings 3’. That made me sick. I know it’s not gonna be Devil Kings, I just don’t see why people would even consider saying that, because it’s coming over here as Sengoku Basara.

This game is gonna rock! I love SB, even more than the Warriors series, like Dynasty and Samurai. I think the character design is flawless, and the gameplay is really deep and fast paced. Even if it doesn’t come outside of Japan, I’ll be importing!

Nice to see a fan on the premisses, most people never played the series, or played the US Devil Kings and were irked by it.

Popular w/ women eh, lol. Historical characters + handsome anime design = sure win, similar to the classic Rurouni Kenshin which also had lots of female fans. At least Oda Nobunaga is still a guy, unlike shameless properties like Ikki Tousen turning the Three Kingdoms generals into busty high school girls :(..

I actually haven’t tried the Sengoku Barara series yet, but I really want to play that 2D fighting game the most, Sengoku Basara X (Cross), looks totally awesome.

    • lostinblue

yeah, from this series I’m specially interested in Basara X as well.
