Hello, Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth

Fans asked and Konami listened. Kind of. And really, after Gradius Rebirth and Contra Rebirth, we should’ve seen this coming. Via some sleuthing courtesy of Gamerbytes — and the ESRB who will replace the games press in its entirety someday — we have info on Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth, a new 2D sidescroller for WiiWare:

This is a side-scrolling action game in which players battle against monsters in Dracula’s castle. Players use a chained whip to fight their way through halls and dungeons filled with zombies, skeletons, flying eyeballs, and bats. The enemy creatures frequently shoot projectiles and attack players in hand-to-hand combat. If players sustain too much damage, they keel over and emit a burst of red blood. Some rooms in the castle also have spikes or spears stained with red, blood-like splotches.

Judging by the title, Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth might be a spiritual successor or a remix of Castlevania: The Adventure, the very first Game Boy installment in the series. The game consisted of four levels, no sub-weapons (its sequel Belmont’s Revenge, pictured above, brought them back however) and wasn’t terribly inspired overall. Since Contra Rebirth consists of five levels, it’s possible Castlevania: The Adventure was chosen as a base for the same reason.

Hopefully, Rebirth will feature some of the later improvements made to the series. It’s hard to say, since the ESRB summary only mentions a whip.

Thanks to Brandon for the heads up!
