A GamesIndustry.biz report claims that Project Fortress, the Final Fantasy action game set in Ivalice, — initially in development at Swedish developer GRIN prior to their closure — is still being worked on.

Sources close to both parties have revealed that the game, initially signed off in Tokyo in the second half of last year and codenamed Fortress, was central to the collapse of the Swedish developer – Square took the project off GRIN after only six months of development due to concerns over quality issues.

A month ago, concept art and screenshots from the GRIN project made their way onto the Internet shortly after the company’s closure via various blogs and LinkedIn profiles. It remains to be seen if they’re still indicative of the product in development now.

Huh, shame on me for never hearing of this. I hope whatever the concept behind the game was, the ‘Ivalice Alliance’ people try to pick it up at some point. I’m really excited about them creating a persistent timeline and world. FFT, FFXII, Vagrant Story… just… do it. Ivalice is cool.

Yup, agreed. I’m all for a consistent world and timeline, too. They seem to be trying to go in that direction now, what with FFXIII and Crystal Chronicles each taking place in a single, ever-evolving universe.

I dunno. Ivalice is more of a world…where as in Fabula Nova Crystallis…sure, the “universe” is the same….but like, aren’t the individual worlds like billions of lightyears apart in the sense that there’s no chance in hell for a crossover in any of the core titles?

Or wasn’t it something like…same mythology, but different universes?

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

          Just different provinces I believe.

@qbasic i think they all take over at different times like fft was the first one while ffta probably take a year after that same goes fore ffta2 another year. and ffX12 probly years i beat probly not far off two ffa2 since that had ff12 chars in it. so there some time line in there some where

          • QBasic

Wow…that’s a big hell no… I just read online. They DO take place in the same universe, but are *completely* different worlds, characters, situations, etc. The only thing the same is the crystal and deity mythology.

          • topdog2007

@qbasic really all the Ivalice take the same place but differnt times like ether vagrent story first or fft first then it ffta. then ffXII then ffta2 sinces they have charter from ffXII. but games like 1 threw 10 oh yeah they all take different worlds
