Tales of Graces DS Mini-Game Also Sold On DSiWare

By Spencer . October 2, 2009 . 11:39am

imageTales of Graces uses DS download play to transfer Kamenin Merchant, a portable dungeon crawler to the DS. For a downloadable mini-game, Kamenin Merchant is rather impressive. It generates random dungeons, has a four player mode, and transfers items back to Tales of Graces.

Kamenin Merchant is so big Namco Bandai decided to sell it as a downloadable DSiWare game. A price, release date, and details about potential Tales of Graces connectivity have not been announced, but if you have a Japanese DSi you will be able to play Kamenin Merchant at some point.

Neat addition to Graces, but as I said before, this will not placate me! I want a real Tales of… for the DS.

    • You want a mothership title on the DS? were Innocence and Hearts escort? I know Tempest is.

      • Both Innocence and Hearts are mothership games. Tempest was, too, if I recall correctly — until the not-so-positive media impressions came in. Not sure about that last bit though, so don’t take my word for it.

well I meant I want a Tales of…. DS in English XD (Tempest doesn’t look too good so I don’t care if we never get it, but Innocence and Hearts look very nice.)

        • Luckily, they’re both getting fan-translations. God bless the Internet. But yea, it would certainly be nice if Namco pulled up their socks a bit.

But if you get Tales of Graces, you have no reason to buy this too, right?

Or maybe they are adding some extra DSiWare functionality?

    • More like this is for people that don’t want to buy Graces/don’t own a Wii but want to try this out anyway.

Yeah, it’s just that I read this line:

“A price, release date, and details about potential Tales of Graces connectivity have not been announced”

And thought, if one has Tales of Graces, why would they want to buy this game anyway? :P

        • Well…one reason could be that you don’t necessarily want to hang around your Wii while playing Kamenin Merchant, since it would need Tales of Graces running in order to stream the data to your DS… ;p

Uhm, yes, forgot about that. Eh. It’s been a long while since I last used the Wii-DS connectivity. I won’t say it has been almost completely ignored like the GC-GBA connectivity, but i feel like it could be used more often.

Hopefully Graces has an option to allow a full install for DSi at least, it’d be nice to just have the game stored locally rather than having to redownload everytime you turned your DS off or played something else. Knowing Scamco, I doubt it though… they’d rather have people buy both. :/

If you don’t own Tales of Graces, I’d say not bother regardless. Plenty of other games exactly like this. Here are some good ones. Azure Dreams, Chocobo Dungeon series, and Torneko series.

    • Right, but this probably nets you special items in Graces, which the completionists will want. It’s a smart move I think. I’d like to see more publishers do it. :)
