Last week, we brought news of MangaGamer’s tentative localization schedule for the next year. Today, we can confirm that the release for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (ch. 1-4) has been locked down for December 15.

The game’s English release has been titled “Higurashi When They Cry.” The first four chapters will (collectively) cost €36.95 and will debut on the All Ages section of the MangaGamer website, which, as the name indicates, will host content suitable for people of all ages.

One should point out, though, that while Higurashi’s art looks cute, the story — which revolves around a series of murder conspiracies — is anything but.

For those interested, it seems Anime News Network is running a contest in collaboration with MangaGamer to give away 5 free downloads of Higurashi. A big thanks to Matty on our Facebook group for pointing it out!

We were also informed that the site will be down for a few hours on the day of Higurashi’s release for testing purposes, so keep that in mind if you plan to buy the game on day one.

55 US dollars. That’s not too bad I guess.

I don’t know, I am under the impression that each chapter isn’t too long. Primarily because the each arc in the anime wasn’t that long and only a few things were left out of the anime. 55 US sounds a bit much to me. :/
Of course I may be under the wrong impression here, but still how long are those 4 chapters? If they don’t go over 60 hours, then 55 is a lot to be asking. It would be a little better at 40 (10 a piece). eh but I’m just cheap.

The arcs are actually pretty long, which is a testament to how much characterization the anime left out. Just from playing the first arc, I could tell how epic the series would be reading through the sound novels, just based on the depth of all the characters’ relationships with each other. They also get you into the main character (Keiichi)’s head a lot more.

The anime seems to be almost a plot summary by comparison. It is definitely worth the $13.75/arc.
