Best Bargains From Japan: 7th Dragon And Fate: Unlimited Codes

Two imports I’ve had my eye on are getting bargain versions next year. First up is 7th Dragon, SEGA’s distinctly oldschool RPG for the Nintendo DS, produced by Phantasy Star designer Rieko Kodama, in collaboration with the director and composer for Etrian Odyssey.

Inside Games report that SEGA’s bargain version will hit retail in Japan on March 11, 2010 for 2,625 yen.

The other game is Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable, which I kind of want but have no intention of buying digitally over PSN at $30 (sorry Capcom, although I really appreciate that you localized it), nor at $52.90 (!!!) on Play-Asia. Instead, I’ll probably just pick up the "Best" version P-A lists for Feb 18, 2010 priced at $34.90.

It’s a fighting game and I finally get to kick Gilgamesh’s ass with Rider — the story bits can always be Youtubed.

So wait, you want to pay MORE money for a NON localized version? Okay…

    • Well, it’s a fighting game and the Japanese version, which comes on a disc (which is the main incentive here) is only 5 bucks more.

Personally I’d rather support quirky games like this getting localized, which gives games that really need a full translation(i.e. GROWLANSER) a chance.

Also, it’s been on sale before for like $14.99 if memory serves.

It was 14.99 during that Thanksgiving sale. I picked it up, but haven’t tried it yet.

        • I know, I know…I do feel a little guilty for not buying CEI’s localized version. It’s just that the bargain version is at a really great price and I want the nice box with the disc and everything.

  • I still need to get the NA Digital version off PSN.

  • [email protected] SP is getting a bargain price in late January for $34.90USD. It’s the Japanese release, though, not the Asian region one with the English manual book. Very tempted to try out Wandering Star and Missing Moon now.

Good thing game prices on imports have stayed consistent. If it hadn’t during the weakness of the U.S. dollar, well, I can only imagine.

  • Great news. I keep hearing people say that 7th Dragon is gonna make it over here and am willing to wait—but just in case the rumors don’t pan out, it’s good to know that the import will be in print for a while longer…
