Welcome to Facebook Files, where we’re reverting back to the old format this week with a discussion from our Facebook group!

Steven wrote:

Okay, so this discussion is a bit whimsical. It involves one’s desire to see something happen relating to a video game release and only a release. No character cameos (i.e. Sonic in Brawl), game modes, or anything like that. Just simply state what your wish/es was and how it came true. Please limit your wishes to something that’s surprising than obvious. Obvious being "I hope that they make another Mario Kart". Obscure being "I hope that they make a sequel to Okami on the DS." Sure this is silly, but I know we all have something that we liked to see and it happened. I’ll give three examples of mine. Ironically all three involved are ports that I was hoping for, but you can wish for whatever you want. [...]

Anton wrote:

Interesting topic! The only video game "wish" of mine that has come true has been a re-release of Chrono Trigger. And it happened twice! Once for the Playstation and once on the DS.

Uh, other that than I was hoping for a DS game in the Atelier series and we finally got one with Atelier Annie last year. I really wanted to see Atelier Lise on DS here in North America, but that fell through. Since P3 Portable has been announced, I’ve been REALLY hoping for the same thing to happen with P4.

Samwise wrote:

Hmm, I don’t think this has really happened to me much, but I’d been wanting to see TvC in NTSC before that was announced.

Steven wrote:

TvC in the U.S. was a godsend! It was well worth my woes and worries that we weren’t going to get it.. I had no hope for TvC at all. Of course that’s all changed now ^_^

Raphael wrote:

Persona remake for the PSP. What ATLUS should’ve done with the PSX NA release to begin with.

Anton wrote:

@Raphael: Good call! It would be really nice if they did something similar with Persona 2 and actually released both games for NA.

You can read the full discussion here. We’re also chatting about PlatinumGames and crossovers too! Meanwhile, what videogame wishes would you like to see come true? Remember, surprising rather than obvious. Fire away in the comments!

Jirin Says:

What I'd like to see is Japanese-style RPGs with an older audience in mind. Growing up probably 70% of my video game playing time was spent on JRPGs. I really like the style, but I'm getting sick of all the kiddiness and cutesiness. Characters with no emotional maturity, simplistic predictable plots where characters are defined mostly by their entitled angsty whining and obnoxious acting out. A total lack of challenge or even need to think about tactics. People who were kids when they played Final Fantasy 4, 6, and Chrono Trigger are in their 20's now. Let's see some JRPGs with them in mind.

Shin Megami Tensei is the one JRPG series that does feel like it's accessible to adults, except it's kind of gotten more younger audience oriented with the Persona games and all the 'playing detective' themes.

Lee Dasco Says:

I absolutely, 100% agree

badmoogle Says:

I have a couple of wishes but unfortunately none of them has come true (yet.):/

manga Says:

So you want to run around in seemless endless dungeons and fight trough out a whole game with few story bits?

JRPGs like FF have their faults sure, but all games have faults. It isn´t as they are perfect.

From the games I´ve played in the SMT series I´ve enjoyed the Persona games the most. Next after those are the Digital Devil Saga games, third is Nocture and in last the Devil Summoner games.

I haven´t played the DS game Devil Survivor enough yet to be able to get a opinion of it.

I have no worries with getting to play as 18 year old people or younger. It´s their character I might get irritated in, like Yuki from Grandia 3. And how Rush starts out in Last Remnant.

But we all see things differently. I can agree on getting a new type of JRPGs would be a good thing that are aimed at a more adult scene.

manga Says:

My wish?

Mainly getting all the visual novels/remakes of visual novels that I´m missing out on translated.

Tears to Tiara for PS3 would be a prime example. Having played the PC game and watched the anime I want to play the PS3 game as well.

MelodyKitn Says:

I've always wanted to play the Pricessmaker Series. Translations for all of them on the DS would be quite delicious.

And there used to be an old game called Wonder J Project. I'd be interested to see that get vamped and released.

Pichi Says:

I didn't take what that poster said like that. You can have a RPG that has the stuff like today, just make it more challenging and the storyline more than what it is now. I'm sure you have watched TV shows or anime that seems like its aimed at a more mature/different audience than the typical Family Guy/Naruto programs.

As for the topic, I would love to see more variety. More visual novels and sim love games. Not only more genres and different gameplay, but having a variety of story/storylike elements is nice as well. Would like more companies to step off their comfort zone.

abigsmurf Says:

Lunar 3 and for it to be just as good as the first 2 but with current gen graphics.

New Chrono game or a remake of Radical Dreamers.

A Grandia game with the 'feel' of the first one (although 2 was good too)

rhyth Says:

i want jet set radio future for ps3, even if its a port of the xbox version

Ereek Says:

Skies of Arcadia 2, a Legend of Dragoon sequel, a remake of the of the original Grandia or a sequel that plays like it, and a new Breath of Fire game. I'd put Suikoden in here somewhere, too, but I don't think Suikoden is dead quite yet.

Oh, and more Growlanser releases in North America.

sasuke222 Says:

A sequel to Jump Ultimate Stars or Battle Stadium D.O.N for the Wii.

malek86 Says:

I wanted a new JSR game. This almost happened, but it didn't.

I also wanted a Fatal Frame for the Wii. This happened, but it backfired.

Needless to say, I'm not too lucky with my wishes.

Hero of Legend Says:

One of my wishes is Klonoa 2 for Wii, I loved the original on Wii and have started playing the PS2 sequel, so far it's better than the original and I'm dying for it to get the treatment the original got on the Wii.

What came true?

More JRPGs for the Wii, holy hell, The Last Story and Xenoblade look like just what the doctor ordered! :D

What else do I want to come true? More localizations like Tales of Graces (likely!), The Last Story and Xenoblade to surely come to NA (Xenoblade is almost definite, but look at Disaster…), and Captain Rainbow and Pikmin 2 and Chibi-Robo.

I also wish for more ports, you heard me, I want some more of the awesome games from the PS2 and GameCube, like Skies of Arcadia Legends, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss, all three Xenosaga games in a trilogy, all three Phanstasy Star Online games in a trilogy as well, to start anyway. XD

A wilder wishes include Sonic Adventure 3 (THE REAL ONE), a new DK platformer ala DK64, Pokemon Stadium 3 (again, the real one), and Kirby for Wii to finally show itself and get released. :(

The previous games in those series were my favs from the late N64/early GC era, I'm peeved that Nintendo's focusing TOO MUCH on Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. DK, Kirby and Pokemon have truly gotten the shaft. X'(

Shane Fitzpatrick Says:

For Sonic to return to his greatness and SEGA vs CAPCOM

Xeahnort Says:

Dark Cloud 3 and less censorship in videogames

MrMee Says:

I'm with you on the ports (i.e. Xenosaga Trilogy Boxset for Wii or something) as well as the new DK platformer.

MrMee Says:

Hopefully project Needlemouse will remedy our Sonic woes.

MrMee Says:

My wishes come true were:

Ikaruga port for XBLA
Resident Evil 4 port for Wii
Megaman Zero Collection for DS

These were very specific wishes of mine that had my desired outcome almost to a tee. I'd normally say Tatsunoko vs Capcom was, but I really did give up hope for it to come stateside. Okami DS was a thought of mine, but never a full out wish. It would have been a wish if Clover never disbanded, but since it did an Okami sequel for DS just seemed too unlikely. Though not from the original creator, Okamiden looks pretty good.

denpanosekai Says:

Nightmare of Druaga 2…. my favourite game of the past 10 years. Will never happen.

Jirin Says:

All I meant is I want more grownup stories and characters. I like both the dungeon crawling SMTs like Nocturne and the plot oriented ones like Digital Devil Saga, and at least in the Persona games characters act like high schoolers instead of 8 to 12 year olds like in Final Fantasy games. I like Persona, but I don't like the 'Playing detectives' thing in Persona 4.

kylehyde Says:

Wishes that came true:
Disgaea for DS
Golden Sun DS
The american releases of Super robot taisen endless frontier, professor Layton and the world ends with you.
Hotel Dusk sequel

That probably will come true:
The american release of Inazuna Eleven (the trademark has been registered but still theres not confirmation)

That I want to come true but have few possibilities:
Localization of last window and Another World

That will never come true:
Localization of ASH, somabringer and any “Tales” game for DS.
Mother (earthbound) compilation for DS.
Reggie and Cammie being fired from NOA.

Unkown probability wishes:
Sequel of the world ends with you.
Another game from platinum games for DS (apart from infinite space).

Cristóbal Escalona Says:

There IS an Earthbound compilation, Mother 1+2, for the GBA.

Cristóbal Escalona Says:

I want that Xenosaga Trilogy Boxset to come true too!
I was only able to buy Xenosaga II and III when I had a PS2, and everywhere I asked for episode I it was out of stock.

Cristóbal Escalona Says:

Import it and use the translation patch?

malek86 Says:

I already imported and played it, back in 2008.

I was referring to the fact that the game is definitely not so good.

Cristóbal Escalona Says:

Well let's see…
I'd like a Persona 4 port for the Wii or PSP.
Final Fantasy Tactics A3 with male vieras and no new races for DS, or Final Fantasy Tactics 2 for Wii, PSP or DS.
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures 2 for Wii(Ware?) or DS with Nintendo WFC support.
New Play Control! The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles with Nintendo WFC support.
Baten Kaitos 3(or 2 if you consider Origins 0).
A new Animal Crossing and/or Mario Kart.

Those are the ones I can think of now.

kylehyde Says:

But I say DS not GBA also we never saw released earthbound 3, I know that there is project, but is just frustrating that this series being a exclusive nintendo series has been ignored by NOA.

xking2 Says:

Baha, mine was weird.

After playing Sonic adventure for the first time, I was like

“Sheesh, Chaos is so awesome. I wish he would be playable in a game, but that's probably not gonna happen..”

Lo and behold, he was playable in the sequel.
And then he made another playable appearance in Sonic battle.

cowcow Says:

A good Godzilla game for PS3

Hraesvelgr Says:

More games being localized. You guys have the option of doing it over PSN/XBL now, so do it! Can't really think of anything more specific than that. Outside of certain games never being localized, I'm cool with most games that come out these days (the ones that I play, anyway), as strange as that is in these modern times of hating on every new game that is released just because trollin' is cool.

Aoshi00 Says:

Me wish,

Chrono 3/Break (none of that Chrono Cross stuff.. and Blue Dragon while a good game failed in that regard)

Xenosaga Ep 4

ASH localized (I've played the import and own the OST and Drama CD)

Mother 1+2+3 on DS (translated)

P5 in HD (might happen sooner or later I guess, but not sure when since they're milking P3/4)

Brojasu Says:

having the megaman xtreme games as a bonus on the megaman zero collection would be a very nice addition

manga Says:

You go around talking to people in P3 as well. Only thing that you do in P4 is that the setting is different. Otherwise you go around talking and playing “detective” in P3 as well since you are indeed looking for a reason for the Extra hour and such.

So the biggest change is how they showed it, with graphics and sentances.

Grownup stories is something I can agree on. But then I have to ask what is a grown up story? Xenosaga had a very grown up story, talking about power, how the past forms the one you are today and so many more subjects I don´t even recall them all.

How was that received? To many movies.

A game like FFX is what you make of it. Given the whole existence subject that follows trough and when you realize how everything is well you start getting sad before you´re even close to the ending.

Having Vivi research what is means to exist in FFIX was also great and more grown up than many other titles.

So while I do understand your point with having older characters instead of the ordinary 15 year old characters there have been titles with that kind of character and storyline. Which have all but succeeded. Rarely enough Persona 3 worked just fine but not being close to selling as much as it should have. Same with Persona 4.

I wonder how Heavy Rain will be. That should be a mature story with older characters than most are used to. Maybe other companies will follow suit in choosing a older storyline.

I´ve grown up with FF, CT and all these great titles and I still enjoy most of them.

miruki Says:

Hmm… almost all of the games I bought had been on my “Oh I wish they'd localise this”-list a long time before they finally got announced… but there's still enough games thad never got localised, like Summon Night, Sacred Blaze… I'm still desperately wishing for those.

I had always hoped for Fragile getting localised and keeping the Japanese voice track, since it's for the Wii I didn't really expect them to pull that of for reals (space issues and the likes) but they did so I was rather happy/surprised when I heard about it.

What I'm still dreaming off is having Otome games coming over here some day.. Tokimemo Girl's Side being fantranslated now will hopefully get more ppl interested. And maybe some far away day I'll put a Blu Ray in my PS3 and drool over HD bishonen who help me save the world while I'm trying to make them fall for the heroine, and everyone's lines are written in English… :D

Furthermore I'll keep on hoping for Ushiro getting localised… <3

manga Says:

Challenging gameplay is hard to do. Classic methods of leveling up can make any game easy as pie. Getting the enemies to level with your main character like FFVIII is one way of solving the powerlevel problem.

And from my experience with Disgaea and their hardest battles, you want to find a line that allows you to play a game with it as being fun and not having to do leveling.

I´ve watched a amount of anime yes. And I can´t say that you can´t enjoy a show like Naruto even if you are old. If you concentrate you can find some serious busniess in almost any show.

Watching Bakemonogatari is not that much more “grownup” story. You have to understand the meaning of their words to get along.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex can be both a very good action show and a show for afterthought with the whole “complex” bit.

So while I have watched almost any type of show, from shounen to yaoi I do not know what I would like to call more “mature” than others.

I would say that Berserk is more mature, not because of the story or that it makes you think, but thanks to the amount of blood & gore it has. Same could be said about the erotic anime shows. Not because of story but rather what the content is.

Take time to look at how Macross develops with their characters and you have a mature setting that gives some afterthought and at the same time it´s a great show for younger people to watch.

So it´s very hard to do without telling and making up “rules” for what a “more mature” anime/game should be.

But yes, I do agree with you that we need a new perspective and more variety in games/anime. In everything from storylines to characters.

miruki Says:

I'd like to see more mature JRPGs too… I don't really mind the characters not being adults themselves, as long as they act reasonable, as long as all the humor is not being forced and silly, as long as the hero is not the typical JRPG wuss or brat. I would like to see darker themes, mature dialogue and the likes…. oh, but I love playing detectives. I want more mystery/crime/suspense JRPGs! :>

KaruCgSt Says:

Einhänder 2 … or at least the first one oficially in the US PSN u.u

MrMee Says:

Yes! I would love to see everything you mentioned! Especially ASH and Mother as those would not be difficult to pull of since they have already been released elsewhere.

MrMee Says:

Lol, I liked Godzilla Unleashed. But it seriously need a few more months of development time. Godzilla on PS3 and 360 with HD graphics with full-sized cities to destroy and be destroyed during an epic struggle between monsters? DAY ONE BOUGHT! (Godzilla fan since birth, seriously)

MrMee Says:

Persona 4 = likely with the advent of Persona 3 portable
Final Fantasy Tactics A3 = probably will happen, but on the DS successor
Final Fantasy Tactics 2 = We wish (yes Squeenix, a lot of us do)
LoZ: Four Sword Adventures 2 = I don't know about this one, but I would love to see it as the GC one was amazing as a multiplayer game as very few have surpassed it in terms of fun factor
New Play Control = Loz: WW, SMS, and FF CC with wfc support? sounds good to me. Make it happen Nintendo!
Baten Kaitos 3 = I'm not sure about this, but it's possible. I could see Monolith and Tri-Crescendo possibly working on another
A new AC or MK = It'll probably happen, but imo I don't think it needs to any time soon. I only want a new AC if it was a MMO of sorts.

Also, I'm such a geek and I can't help it :)

MrMee Says:

Golden Sun DS was a wish once upon a time…like seven years ago. It faded away and then outta nowhere, Reggie (who I like, Cammie I don't) announced it at E3 and I just wanted to hug the man and shake his hand.

I really would have loved to see ASH, Soma Bringer, Tales of…, and Mother on the DS myself. T_T

The Another World will get released stateside, I sincerely hope. I have faith in this one still.

MrMee Says:

It would be nice. I would like that and a Prince of Persia Trilogy Box Set.

B4ULoveShine Says:

The only one that came true for me only consisted of any Super Robot Wars OG games and Tatsunoko VS Capcom.

Cristóbal Escalona Says:

I know AC and MK will happen, but the thing is, I want them NOW!

And what has being a geek got to do with anything?
Everyone here is a geek, in some level!

banballow Says:

Another Code R to the US. This is a priority.
… also, a new Darkstalkers.
… and an HD remake of Illbleed.

MrMee Says:

I called myself a geek because I agree with just about everyone.

StealthKnight Says:

Don't for get Higurashi When They Cry, Monster, Shadow star naru, and other psychological mature anime out there. As for game, we have, Final fantasy tactics, Shenmue 1+2, shin megumi tensi series, Metal gear series, Drakengard 1 +2, Baroque, Brothers in arms series, Condemned Criminal origins 1+2, Penubra trilogy, The longest journey series, thief trilogy, Mafia etc. They are not as numerous as less mature titles. So there is variety out there, it's just not as mainstream

cowcow Says:

No I dont want an American developed Atari made Godzilla game I want Bandai to do it straight from Japan. Up in par with the PS2 Ultraman games

Jirin Says:

You go around researching things in Persona 3, but characters don't refer to themselves as detectives. Characters have a better sense of reality, they know they're only there because they happen to be the ones capable of moving around during the Dark Hour, and they have a good sense of the enormity of their decisions especially toward the end. In Persona 4 there's this vibe of kids playing dressup and being detectives because it's fun that I find off-putting.

Maybe a better example of a game where characters act like kids is Tales. But Final Fantasy still has that sort of juvenile outlook where nobody thinks through any of their actions and everyone is terrified of romance.

I don't mind if the characters are young, but when young people are put in adult situations they tend to start thinking a little more like adults. Like, maybe when you're trying to save the world you stop whining about your daddy issues or worrying about whether you have f-f-friends.

MrMee Says:

Lol I though Pipeworks did an admirable job bring Godzilla to gamers. But I understand. I'd like someone to make a Godzilla game who has a higher budget.

sambuque Says:

The complete Langrisser serie translated on one luxuous package is all I ask for.

Ereek Says:

I can definitely support this one.

mooncalf Says:

This is my dream http://tinyurl.com/yektbzk

**warning** this is a safe screen shot from an otherwise naughty site.

manga Says:

Sure I will give you that they start of as kids playing detective. But when reality sinks in for them and they actually start to think about what it is that they have gotten themselves into there are more similarities to P3 than just playing.

The characters evolve quite much in P4 :)

I haven´t played all Tales of games, but I can´t say that anyone but Karol in Tales of Vesperia acts like a kid. For good reasons since he is a kid. Yuri is not acting like a kid, he overthinks things.

For FFVIII I can defend Squall, being alone for so long and the whole emotional attachment is something to think of. I´ve been in the same shoes before I started opening up and it hurt like hell when I had to shut that bond of friendship down. It has taken me a long time to recover from that.

I wouldn´t say that Zidane is afraid of love. Tidus and Yuna feelt a bit fast. Oh she´s crying and I want to protect her only to get home to my own world, what do I do?

So it´s both give and take here as well.

manga Says:

I´ll be honest, I didn´t think of Higurashi. But there you have to have a bit more thinking yes to get everything and it will still leave you in afterthought.

Final Fantasy Tactics is a double edged sword. While I do agree with you I could also say that is the usual stuff. Ramza being whiny and emo about his family and brothers and thinking about Delita and such. But given the time he has to improve his character and grow as the main lead I do also agree that he is more mature than most other FF heroes.

Drakengard would have been a lovely game if it hadn´t been for the really bad fighting mechanics :( Baroque is a game I haven´t played but from the looks of the story it gives thought to a lot of interesting stuff.

And yes. Variety is out there, but since they demand more from the player they are not as popular.

funplayonline Says:

The graphics look nice at least.

Ujn Hunter Says:

@Samwise: TvC was originally in NTSC… Japan shares the NTSC code with the States.

Ujn Hunter Says:

Man… good stuff! I shouldn't expect anything less from you however! :)
