Blaster Master Overdrive Rolls Onto WiiWare This Monday

By Spencer . February 7, 2010 . 12:55am

screen6Holy leaping frogs, a re-imagining of Blaster Master came out of left field. Sunsoft just announced Blaster Master Overdrive for WiiWare.

Blaster Master Overdrive has a mix of overhead shooting and tank riding platforming, just like the original. S.O.P.H.I.A., the massive tank used in the platforming parts, can be upgraded with different parts like a drill (from Blaster Master 2, maybe?) and grappling hook. You’ll need those to progress through the game’s eight stages, each with its own mutant boss at the end.

While this is the first we’ve heard of Blaster Master Overdrive, it’s done. The game hits WiiWare in North America on Monday and costs 1,000 Wii Points ($10).

  • Well, that was fast.

Vic did say that they were planning to bring back some titles of yesteryear, so I’m really glad they made that happen so quickly, and makes me wonder what else they have up their sleeve.

    • MadMirko

      Fast, indeed.

Seems the Nintendo School Of Marketing is gaining influence. “Oh and BTW, this awesome title we have been hinting at? Yeah, it’s out on Monday”.

  • Trotmeister

Heh heh, yeah, I recall playing the original one back in the NES days… Never finished it, though.

  • MrMee

this looks pretty awesome, hopefully it turns out good as it’ll be a day one buy if it is.

  • I love these surprise quick releases like this and excitebike. Lets hope that its good. Though I wonder if this would hurt the makers since there isn’t much time to market or even spread out the knowledge of its existence.

  • I’m not a huge fan of the art direction on the vehicle and the protagonist. Other than that, looks cool. I’m a giant fan of the original (is that on Virtual Console yet?) and might consider picking this up.

  • eliel

looks good to me, and 10 bucks looks reasonable for me…

  • thaKingRocka

hmm, this may be my first wiiware purchase. i don’t like digital goods for hardware that won’t be around in 5 years, and i think it’s overpriced, but since i’ve always wanted to play blaster master, i think i will grab this. castlevania and contra also beckon me…

btw: how do you like that sound effect being so very reminiscent of turtles in time (snes)?
