Digital importers and PSPgo owners rejoice! Tokimeki Memorial 4 is up on the Japanese PSN, so if you’ve been wanting to scratch that classic dating-sim itch, you can now do so for a hefty 4,200 yen (that’s approximately $47). Happy Valentine’s Day!

Everyone else…root for TokiMemo4.com’s letter campaign to Konami, asking for a localized release of the game. If you’re interested in helping the cause, you can read more on how to do so here. Keep in mind it involves writing real letters to specific executives at Konami.

People should have bought Brooktown High. Yeah, it wasn’t Japanese (and to be blunt, not very good), but in the same exact genre. Konami took a chance and fans of this sort of stuff didn’t step up to the plate. They have only themselves to blame.

Brooktown High was developed for the western market and it didn’t do well for a reason. The appeal of, I guess the anime art style and the way story and character progression unfolds seems to appeal more to the Western date-sim/visual novel fanbase(And H-material). Konami gave it shot, but it just wasn’t up to par. Plus Brooktown High is a pretty horrid title.

But there are companies that are translating such titles like MangaGamer and Peach Princess and are somehow managing to stay afloat. Nitro+ even sees the western market as exploitable since their announcement of translating Demonbane.

Rest assured that Tokimeki Memorial 4 will not suffer from the same deficiencies. [...] The markets of North America would warmly welcome Tokimeki Memorial 4 with open arms [...]

While I can sympathize with the effort, being a fan of the only slightly-less-niche genre of STGs, self-delusion really isn’t going to convince anyone. :/

He’s right though. “Wamly welcome with open arms” is certainly not an argument I’d use…
