CRI Middleware Shortens PSP Load Times

CRI, a Japanese middleware provider, are promoting what they call File Magic Pro; software that allegedly reduces the load times in PSP games by half via game compression and expansion, and file placement optimization.

Among the games that already implement this solution are Persona 3 Portable, Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, Valkyria Chronicles 2, and Mana Khemia 2 Portable.

Perhaps Square Enix would be interested in utilizing it for Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep before releasing it in the west? After all, they’re already making other tweaks to the game.

Is this referring to reduced load times via a UMD-based game, or something that works even for digital copies?

I believe it works for both.

CRI is CRIWARE right? The company who’s logo basically proceeds every single game made?

Good catch! Yes, it’s the same company. In case you didn’t check the Famitsu link, here’s their Japanese site: http://www.cri-mw.co.jp/ :)

Yup, and they also have tools like this for PS2 and Wii, probably the very same tool, only ported, too.

Persona 3 Portable cool. I’m looking more and more excited about this game. Now with less load times oh yeah.

The PSP load times aren’t as bad as people state for most of the games. However is good for the system. Halfing all newer games regardless would definitely be nice though.

Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny load times still are lame. Somehow I doubt the majik file system will affect those games already played from a memory stick as all the CRI system does is mount a “drive” that the umd will then copy to on the memory stick. Essentially its is a cache system of files for faster load times assuming you have a fast memory stick duo available. So for those who buy the game online via PSN(assuming you can connect) or for those who dupe it and play from the memory stick already — this “File Majik” system will have no real affect.

Im not going to sit here and ponder over file structure and load times. If it makes my PSP game perform better then thats fine by me. If S-E implements this for the US release of Kingdom Hearts then that would be great but seeing as this is S-E were are talking about Im not holding my breath. Great news for Persona 3 though.
