Hey Atlus, What’s Radiant Historia?

By Spencer . March 16, 2010 . 8:36am

imageAtlus publishes a ton of games in North America, but in Japan there are only a handful of Atlus developed titles each year. Radiant Historia might be one of them.

The publisher filed a trademark for Radiant Historia in Japan, which hasn’t been linked to anything announced by Atlus so far. New IP? Radiant Historia could work alone. This could be a subtitle too. Growlanser: Radiant Historia, maybe?

Atlus has been pretty busy in the trademark space recently. They also registered Gungnir a few months ago.

This sounds most interesting. I’ll bet it’s a PSP game. I don’t know why, it just gives me PSP vibes.

    • Because of Radiant Mythology? That’s one of the first things I thought of… Actually, I feel the same way: this must be a PSP game.

      • malek86

Not really, it’s just a hunch. Besides, most RPGs nowadays seem to come out on the PSP.

I don’t think new Growlanser is ever happening. Although unless they bring the original team back, it’s probably for the best.

The team is still at Atlus, the Langrisser/Growlanser team made Devil Survivor.

    why historia???
    historia = history right??

    • In my language yes lol XD !
but its not uncommon for games to have names inspired in latin or stuff XD!specially when it comes to rpgs.

    • Artavasdus

Yes, it’s the latin world for “history”. There are many jrpgs who mix latin words (or made-up words that sound like latin) with english titles, the Tales series for example did that with Phantasia, Eternia, Symphonia and Vesperia.

  • Artavasdus

If I remember correctly, in the growlanser lore (at least in one of the worlds in which the series took place) the word “Growlanser” meant something akin to herosaviour of light, so “Radiant Historia” could indeed be a fitting subtitle for a Growlanser title.

I absolutely love the series and would be very sad to see it disappear like Langrisser. That said, since Atlus didn’t bother to localize Growlanser 6 (despite it being a direct sequel to Growlanser 5) nor Growlanser 1 Psp (despite it being arguably the best in the series along with 4, not to mention the key chapter in the first original Growlanser saga) I fear that we won’t see it in the west :

    • Ereek

I know, it makes me incredibly sad that Growlanser likely won’t ever see western releases again. That’s what importing is for, however. I need another Growlanser title.

  • I don’t really care for Growlanser, but I’ll buy anything with Satoshi Urushihara art in it. As well as click on posts featuring thumbnails of his work. Damn it, Spence, you’ve found my weakness!

  • Time to move Growlanser over to PS3? You bet!

    • Hraesvelgr

I really like Growlanser, but it’s better off not being a PS3 game. Frankly, it just doesn’t have the popularity to warrant the production costs of an HD game and if they’re just going to make it “budget-like”, may as well go with the PSP.
