Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is scheduled for an April 29th release in Japan. To promote it, Konami are collaborating with Japanese Mountain Dew manufacturer Suntory.

As part of the collaboration, Suntory will be selling 8 Metal Gear-branded Mountain Dew cans for a limited time, throughout the country, starting three days before the game launches. You’ll also be able to spot Mountain Dew cans in Peace Walker itself. According to Konami’s press release, “By having a real product appear in the game, KONAMI enhances the affinity between the game’s story and the real world, enabling users to enjoy the game even more.”

        ah-ermcoughbankscough…

There are so many oddball cross-promotions that I’ve seen with games and shows with soft drinks, Metal Gear almost seems kind of fitting.
At least, it reminds me of The Simpsons when the can exploded.

    . . .

    Does it come in Diet?

If it comes in Diet, then, expect aspartame in the ingredients list; otherwise, expect high fructose corn syrup in this.

(Honestly, I’m actually hoping that this limited edition would have Mountain Dew Throwback ingredients and taste.)

This Dew is not available in the US. HFCS is not an ingredient in the Japanese or the American formulation of Diet Dew.

I say Konami found a new money making formula: in-game advertisement. Movies have been doing it for quite some time. I’m surprised it took so long for gaming companies to hit upon the idea. Although, I’m not too happy myself, especially if this becomes rampant.
