Finally, A New Metroid: Other M Trailer

By Ishaan . March 31, 2010 . 1:24am

It took them long enough, but Nintendo finally released gameplay footage of Metroid: Other M. I like that the trailer doesn’t feel as if you’re reliant solely on the suit and not Samus’s inherent capabilities. Aside from that, it looks like classic Metroid with some nice spicing on top, which is what we were promised.

  • Mixed thoughts. Action looks very fast and fluid but it looks like it could be very linear outside of the free roaming rooms.

Also, 3D movement on a d-pad in an action game could be all kinds of horrible.

It looks like what I wanted. Thank you Nintendo.

      Thank you team ninja

Thank you, Project M (Nintendo SPD Production Group 1, Team Ninja and D-Rockets)

  • After buying a cheap copy of Ninja gaiden 2, im very scared by the potential difficulty of this game.

TBH, Ninja Gaiden Black was only hard in the beginning, after a while you get used to the controls and things get easier. Sure it’s harder than average, but still. I don’t know about NG2 as I’ve yet to play it, but many say it was easier than NGB.

Besides, I don’t think Nintendo would make a hard game nowadays. Heck, they’ve even messed up the difficulty levels in the Trilogy so that the Normal difficulty of the first two games is not actually the same as the GC versions, but much easier. You have to select Hard if you want to play in the original Normal mode.

Dont be this game has auto lock on while in 3rd person mode. This game will be nothing like Ninja Gaiden especially in terms of difficulty.

I’d have liked it better if they had just made a 3D version of 2D Metroid (basically, like NSMB). Surely that’s all we needed. And no weird first-person sections, which by the way remind me of Resident Evil DS.

All right, Ishaan. Now that I’ve seen some of the gameplay for Other M, I’m much more interested in this game.
Still not terribly interested in the game’s story, but at least it looks like it will be fun to play. :3

    • We need to maintain a checklist of concerns about this game and start crossing them off one by one. :P

  • I actually broke out Super Metroid on the Super Famicom this week to play through again. This. THIS is the sequel I’ve been waiting for all these 16 years since Super Metroid. I can’t believe it’s Team Ninja delivering it. Interesting indeed.

  • This is like the first Team Ninja trailer where the first 90 seconds of the trailer ISN’T taken up by the Team Ninja logo splash.

  • Looks really awesome. Love the classic feel of it!

Samus has never been more beautiful. The action is very fast-paced and might get a bit frustrating if the controls aren’t fluid, but I reckon the auto-targeting will help there. I kind of didn’t want to see the Mother Brain intro at the end there, wanted to see it when I started the game but oh well…

That trailer made me feel all tingly, as long as the Dpad controls work in 3D space, I’m up for it! :D

  • Masengan

It looks interesting, I am looking forward to at least trying it.

  • I can haz Wii Ninja Gaiden?

This one is sitting pretty high on my list, though like before I am more excited by its potential to be both good or terrible. This is an interesting experiment for Nintendo as it will be the first time (correct?) a first party title is being developed outside of Nintendo. Guess it kind of cements what Reggie said last week about Nintendo not really being very good at making mature titles. Either way I am looking forward to this as Metroid needed a new direction, I did not like the Prime series at all.

    • malek86

There are actually a number of instances before this one (think the two Zelda games by Capcom, or some of the Mario sport games).

Technically speaking, even Metroid Prime itself could be considered an example, since Nintendo offered Retro Studios the contract to work on the game a year before they acquired them. Though I guess they had already planned it.

  • Hah lets hope they have a noob mode for people who arent used to ninja gaiden

  • Saturnus

    ‘Mother… Time to go.’

Mother Brain looks even more psycho in 3D.

  • All I can say is, “Holy S$#!T! Why didn’t they do this before? Can’t wait!”
